The place to be on Election Day is the Boroondara Park PS Fete from 10am to 2pm.

This week you will have received raffle tickets to sell or buy. There are lots of prizes donated by community members and local businesses. For a full list of those who are supporting our raffle please see the fete page of this newsletter.

Later this week you will receive a message seeking your assistance - we are looking for volunteers on the day for many of our stalls.

We hope you can offer your time and spread the word. You will be able to book your volunteer time via TryBooking.

You will also receive information about making things for the cake stall.

Thank you to our Foundation to Year 2 students for bringing in chocolate bars for the Chocolate Toss stall.

We are still collecting books and it is going to be a huge second hand book stall, if you need something new to read, pop in on November 26th.

Support programs for parents

There are many different organizations who offer support programs for parents on many different topics.

Irabina Autism Services provides therapy, programs and support. This link will take you to the parent programs they offer.

eSafety Week and STEM

Our students have had a wonderful week exploring STEM activities with our Year 6 STEM leaders spending time with students in different grades. Thanks to Paula Paziotis for supporting our leaders to put together the exciting activities for this week.

Ask your child what they did this week, each grade was working with different equipment and focus:

  • Foundation – Nudel Kart

Staffing update

Our performing arts teacher Sue Wuttke has taken medical leave for the remainder of 2022. We are sure you join us in wishing her a quick recover.  A reminder that Sue was successful in gaining an ongoing position at Serpell PS for 2023.

We are pleased to have been able to employ Jo Dee Yeoh as the Performing Arts teacher for the remainder of 2022. Jo Dee has hit the ground running with preparation for the Carols evening on December 7th.

Carley Thomas has gained a four year contract at Mernda Primary School, this is near where her new house is going to be built. She will be one of three PE teachers and is excited for her new adventure. We are excited for her but sad that she will be leaving BPPS.

We wish her well in her new position and thank her for all she has contributed to Boroondara Park. Carley has taught Foundation and Physical Education in her time at our school. She has led many whole school events and ensured our students had many different opportunities for enjoying sport and movement. Good luck Carley! We will miss you!

Solar Panels update

The new solar panels are installed, the old panels have been removed.

The new system will come online and we hope support the school by saving a good deal on the electricity bill but also doing our part for the environment.

Thank you to all families who have contributed over the years to the school Building fund (tax deductible fund) and made donations - this enables us to undertake projects like our Solar Panel renewal.

Updated COVID requirements for school

In October the requirements for isolation relating to COVID19 changed. The Department of Health and the Department Education and Training seek your assistance in ensuring we know when there is COVID19 in the community. We do have vulnerable members of our community and we can all support them by being informed.

Reporting positive COVID-19 test results

The Department of Health recommends that a person who tests positive for COVID-19 should inform those with whom they have recently been in contact, including their workplace, schools and household.

Parents and carers will therefore be asked to continue to report positive student COVID-19 cases using the VicED COVID Tool.

It is strongly recommended that students:

  • who test positive to COVID-19 stay home and isolate for 5 days
  • should not attend school after 5 days if still symptomatic
  • who are symptomatic but have not tested positive should not attend school
  • advise the school of the COVID-19 positive test result

Where students become symptomatic at school they should:

  • be collected by their parents/carers
  • undergo testing for COVID-19

It is strongly recommended that staff:

  • who test positive to COVID-19 stay home and isolate for 5 days
  • should not attend after 5 days if still symptomatic
  • who are symptomatic but have not tested positive should not attend school
  • report their positive test result to the school

Enrolments for 2023

If you have a child starting school in 2023 please contact the office for an enrolment form or download it from the school website.

Classes for 2023

We are currently reviewing our classes for 2023.

As part of our planning process I invite parents to spend time considering their child's learning, social and emotional needs for the 2023 school year. This is the opportunity for you to consider what you know about your child, and enables you to share your thoughts about your child's specific needs so we can work together to provide the best possible learning environment.

As a parent you advocate for your child, you want what is best for them, you support and fight for their needs.

It is important we clarify good advocacy. Letting us know your child learns best in an active learning environment, with opportunities to negotiate their learning is good advocacy, whilst requesting a particular teacher for your child is not good advocacy.  All children experience different teachers throughout their education. It is important you share information about your child's needs but not tell us which class they need to be placed into.

This is not an opportunity to select a teacher - this is not school policy and any requests for specific teachers will not be taken into consideration.

We are proud of our teaching staff and we work as a highly functional team, planning and working to provide the best learning environment possible at Boroondara Park PS.

The Google form Dear Ms Lowe  should be  completed  by Monday November 7th
