Student Book Reviews

I first heard of this book after I watched the movie. It was in an interview with the cast, and I immediately wanted to read it – but I didn’t for a really long time. I was always distracted with some other book, and I hadn’t got a chance to even think about reading it. But recently, I had a lightbulb moment where I remembered all the books I wanted to read but had completely forgot about. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before was at the top of the list. I immediately asked my dad to grab it from the library, including the two sequels, but when he searched for it, he found out that all three books were reserved by many people, so we would have to wait a while. This made me quite annoyed because it was only a few days before our big trip to Vietnam and Cambodia, and I didn’t even have one book to bring with me! Fortunately for me, the first book (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before) came one day before the trip, and I started reading almost immediately. I admit that the start was a little lazy, but the further I got into the book, the better it got. Honestly, it took me a while to decide whether or not I liked the book, because some characters and scenes were quite different from the movie, and since I loved the movie exactly the way it was, I wasn’t sure I loved the book. In the end, I did love the book, because I realised that the reason I didn’t like it at the start was because I’d gotten so used to the story being one way, I didn’t think of it in another. I still like the movie more, but only just. If you watch the movie first, like I did, then go into reading the book with an open mind, and you will love the book even more. The next two books are still reserved, but as soon as they aren’t, don’t try to get my attention when I’m reading them.
