Welcome back!

After a well-deserved, and hopefully a restful break, we welcome all past and new students to the Senior School for the start of the 2020 year.

The Level Leaders have made every effort to ensure a smooth start and students should now be settled in their classes.  The first few weeks of school were met with excitement, catching up with friends and engaging in new classes.  The excitement reached almost fever pitch when the Yr 12 bomber jackets arrived.  Not even the extreme heat of a 39 degree day could deter students from proudly wearing their jackets!  We’d also like to commend our senior students on the respectful way in which they have observed the new mobile devices policy.   It took a little practice getting used to the new combination locks, but with mobile devices safely and securely locked away, it has meant that students are engaging with each other more actively.

To ensure a smooth transition, students or parents who wish to discuss issues or concerns should contact the relevant Level Leader by email via Compass, or by telephone on 8458 2825.

As you know, the academic year began in earnest on November 26 last year; students met their new teachers, gained some experience of their chosen subjects and engaged in coursework.  Some even completed assessment tasks during that time and over the summer holidays.  We wish all students all the very best for a successful 2020.

Congratulations Sophie Godbold, Year 11!

We are delighted to announce that Sophie is the deserving winner of the Greensborough RSL’s Living Spirit Fellowship for this year.  Sophie wrote a compelling application evidencing her genuine interest and curiosity in learning more about Australia’s wartime history.   In it, she detailed her long family links to military services, particularly that of her grandfather.  This once in a lifetime opportunity will enable Sophie to consolidate both her skills and passion, as well as her own desire to one day serve in the military.

Sophie will attend the ANZAC Dawn Service at Hellfire Pass on April 25 this year as part of a 10 day pilgrimage to Myanmar and Thailand.  We congratulate Sophie on this wonderful achievement, the first for the College, and look forward to hearing about her adventure at a future assembly.

VCE Units 1 – 4 Policy Handbook 2020

It is essential that parents and students familiarise themselves with the contents of the 2020 VCE Policy Handbook.  VCAA VCE requirements, SACs/SATs and what to do in the event of absence, Authentication and Special Provision are just some of the key elements comprehensively detailed to enable a smooth and successful start to the VCE.  Any queries can be directed to either myself or Mr Sean Hiller, the VCE Coordinator, on 9458 2811.

Key aspects of the handbook will be delivered to VCE students as part of their study skills program.

The ‘Parent and Student Declaration’ is due Friday Feb 28.  Please be sure to familiarise yourself with the handbook, print and sign the declaration and return it to the Coordinators Office.

You will find the ‘Parent and Student Declaration’ on page 38 of the VCE Handbook which can be downloaded from COMPASS ‘School Documentation’ under the Community icon.

REMINDERS:

Attendance

Students are required to attend a minimum of 90% in all subjects/units.  Students who do not meet the College’s attendance requirements jeopardise the satisfactory completion of their Year 10 or VCE.  When students are ill or absent for a legitimate family reason, parents are able to access the Compass program and ‘approve’ that absence.  We ask that all parents regularly access the parent portal and update those approvals where necessary.  For VCE students, it is imperative that absences are covered by a medical certificate, especially if students are absent on the day of a SAC or on the day of a SAT submission.  Parents need to ensure that a medical certificate is obtained to cover their student’s absence; parent notes, Patient and Statutory Declarations WILL NOT be accepted.

  • VET students are reminded to sign out with Mrs Shaw before leaving the College.
  • Unit 1 students who have a study period P6 must also sign out with Mrs Shaw from 3:00PM
