Real Talk Australia

Real Talk is coming to St Philomena's School in November, running sessions for students in years 4, 6, 7 and 9.

Real Talk Australia is an organisation that is all about getting REAL on the topics of sex, relationships and personal identity. Based on Catholic Christian values, Real Talk provides up-to-date resources, presentations and programs that help young people to understand God’s amazing plan for love and life.

It is important for young people to know that they are of great value, that they have a purpose and also for them to have an understanding of the topics of relationships and sex. Young people today receive countless mixed messages about these topics, and can be unaware or confused about the precious gift they hold. (Cf: Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1632; Sacred Congregations for Catholic Education, 1997, 18).

We appreciate the importance of the role of parents in the education of their children. Our aim is to complement and not replace, the present instruction of your children. (Cf: Familiaris Consortio, 37)

Real Talk’s Love and Life Seminars are an opportunity for young people to hear from trained outside presenters about these topics. Real Talk presents this topic in a fun, interactive and contemporary way whilst being real and honest with the students. We seek to encourage and empower students to make positive choices that show respect for others and for themselves.

Parents of students in Year 4, 6, 7 & 9 are invited to, and strongly encouraged to attend.

Catholic Mission Month - Thank you!

Thank you to our wonderful school community who came together to support the works of Catholic Missions Australia. With a very full week of activities, we raised $1422.55 for Catholic Missions and have 372 pairs of socks to donate to our local St Vincent de Paul Shop to support those in our community.

Our Catholic Mission Month activities started with a liturgy on Friday. Students took off their shoes and socks and walked to the hall, in solidarity with the thousands of children who walk to school each day without shoes. We celebrated together while understanding how fortunate we are to live the lives we do. Our focus for Catholic Mission Month was to Heal a Nation through Education, supporting the work of Catholic Missions in Myanmar to build schools, providing access to education for all children.

On Monday we held the Paupers' Banquet, providing an opportunity for students to experience what life is like to have not much to eat, while others have plenty. Twenty lucky students were drawn out from 500 plus tickets and feasted like kings and queens. Thank you to the Mini Vinnies and Secondary Vinnies chapters for their assistance in selling raffle tickets, serving food, setting up and packing up.

On Tuesday we "socked-it-to-poverty" by having a crazy sock day. Students bought a new pair of socks to donate (at our local St Vincent de Paul shop, least donated item and most sought after) and hung them on the line. At lunch time K-10 came together for our "Rock your Socks Off Dance Party".  Thank you Secondary St Vincent de Paul students for being the DJ's for the party.
