End of Term YEP Reflection

YEP

The Youth Empowerment Process (Y.E.P) class has had a very busy term working on our school based projects and fundraisers. Students have built upon leadership skills learnt during term one to plan and run school based group projects this term. These group projects have taught the basics of project management and allowed students to improve an aspect of our school community. Each group has written a reflection on their school-based project below.

Y.E.P Students have also been given the opportunity to attend a fully funded leadership camp in East Gippsland over these coming holidays. The camp is run by The Impact Project group in conjunction with The Summit Camps group. The Summit Camp is run Ryan and Mellissa Doughty (Proud parents of 5 and owners of The Summit Camp) who have donated more than $200,000 to The Impact Project with the aim of inspiring 500 young people to find their greatness!  The Impact Project is a registered charity supported by the incredible team at The Summit Camp.

Group One – Alana and Nichole (The Chillax Club)

We think our Y.E.P project, ‘the Chillax Club’, has been moderately successful. We think that the kids who attended had a good time: we provide snacks, they all seem to get along and they do seem to be relaxed, but we are worried we haven’t focused enough on our mental health agenda because it is a bit difficult to talk about. We wish to continue working on and improving this project.

Group Two – Rachel, Jess, Amelia, Fourlove, Riley and Alex (Gym Fundraiser)

In Y.E.P this semester, our group did a fundraiser to raise money for new gym equipment such as weights and boxing equipment, and to paint the walls of the upstairs part of the gym. Our group is hoping to promote healthy living and try to encourage other students to participate in weekly sport classes. We achieved our goal by doing a ‘How many lollies are in a jar’, students and teachers had the chance to have a guess at a different jar of lollies for each year level, and one for staff. We made $71.00 from our fundraiser within the school. We also got a very generous donation of $500 from SGA Engineering in Melton; we are currently awaiting a donation from Mick’s gym and have approached other businesses in Melton. The winners for guess how many lollies in the jar are:

Year 7: Jack Scalpelli

Year 8: Gemma Burke

Year 9: Micaelie Price

Year 10: Jordan Bozoski

Year 11/12: Maia Rose Williams

Staff: Brooke Martinuzzo

Group Three – Jemma, Kelsey, Andrea, Alani and Dylan (Winter Warmers Fundraiser)

We are the winter warmers group. Our group held a fundraiser on the 2nd of June, where we sold cupcakes and hot Milos. We thank Coles Melton for generously donating the products that we needed to make all of this happen. On the day of the event, we sold the food and drinks in front of the restaurant room at lunchtime and it was a major success. We exceeded our goal of $300; we ended up with a grand total of $443. The day ran smoothly with no problems, overall it was an enjoyable and rewarding event.

All of the funds raised will be donated to the Lighthouse Foundation, who are a charity who are on a relentless crusade to create a society where no child goes without the basic necessities to succeed in life. We are proud to help them with this cause and we are thrilled at the thought that our hard work will hopefully change someone’s life for the better.
