Term 2 Sport Wrap Up

Sport

It’s been a very busy start to Term 2 at Staughton College, with our Sporting Program well and truly underway! Our major event was the Athletics Carnival, where Kitson (Green) took out the Athletics Cup over Watts (Red) and Cotterell (Yellow). The enthusiasm and participation from our students was simply outstanding and has been widely commented on by various staff and parents. The current overall tally still sees Kitson (Green) the house to beat.

With a small Cross Country squad this year, Staughton was still well represented with 5 students making it through to the Western Metro Cross Country Meet at Brimbank Park. Our best performers were Chelsea Lapsley who placed 16th in the 16-year-old female’s division and Maria-Rose Kalafatis who placed 12th in the 17-20 years female division.

Our Senior boys football was another success story, clearly taking care of the schools in our own area, but unfortunately could not carry the form that they had into the next round where they came up against a strong Gisborne side.

Our senior girls squash teams have again lived up to expectations by again making it through to the State Finals for the third consecutive year. More results to come following their state final in August.

This term’s sport is still continuing with the final Senior sports - basketball, soccer and badminton, taking place on the last day of term. Next term we still have intermediate and junior basketball, volleyball and cricket to come.

Success here at Staughton has come from a lot of hard work from staff who consistently put in their own time to train students ready for competition. We look forward to more success in term 3!
