Principal's Report

Mr Gerard Raven

Dear families,

How wonderful it is to see that longer days are here (we are now just awaiting the Wimmera  sunshine!) and to note that the final term for 2022 is upon us. This is always an exciting time, combined with a level of anxiousness as the final assessments approach. I would ask all parents and caregivers to check in on their son/daughter this week to ask how they are going with their schoolwork and if they are confident in concluding the year strongly.

Our Class of 2022 will have their final day of timetabled classes on 19 October, the same day as the College’s Colour Run, and those doing VCE exams will then focus on completing these to the best of their abilities. I would like to thank the VCE staff, led by the dedicated Lesley Lannen, for giving up their time during their holidays to come into school and supervise practice exams. Education is always a partnership between home and school, so I ask parents to support their young adult to ensure they fully apply themselves in this final effort.

This weekend, we are supporting the Parish in participating in the Operation 19:14 event on Sunday 9 October. This year the event is a treasure hunt and we will be manning a station in Coughlin Park from 1-4pm. I am still looking for volunteers to assist. I would like to make special mention of Eliza and Kayla (Yr12 VCAL) who have spent this week cooking over 500 Gingerbread crosses to be distributed on the day. Their efforts reflect the Brigidine spirit that we wish to foster in our students.

On 26 October there will a student free day so that all staff can complete the second day of the ReLate program that builds our staff understanding of what is required to sustain whole school cultural change. St Brigid’s will not be taking the four day weekend for the Melbourne Cup, however we will have an early closure day on Monday, 31st October concluding at lunchtime, so that our staff can attend an intensive workshop on Gender Identity education. Students requiring bus travel will be supervised in the senior study area until 3:20pm.

Our staffing for 2023 is almost concluded and I am excited to welcome some new staff who have transferred from a variety of schools. More information on this will follow. I wish you a restful weekend.

Stay safe
