ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Ben Hawthorn

While we have had some extreme weather throughout the week, things are definitely back in full swing here at East after the September holidays. Students have settled back to school extremely well have jumped right back into their daily routines.

This term, we will continue to have a focus on attendance and getting to school on time each day. Here at Echuca East, we believe that excellent attendance and punctuality leads to better outcomes for our students. This is also backed up by research that shows students who have excellent attendance make better progress than those who do not. All children should arrive at school between 8:30am and 8:45am to ensure they are ready for class. Our bell rings to begin our learning at 8.45, with lessons beginning promptly. This is why it is so important to ‘Beat the Bell’ each day. It is essential that we ensure children arrive at school on time to prevent disruption to your child’s own learning and that of others in the school. We understand that there may be rare occasions when people may be unavoidably late due to unforeseen circumstances. On these occasions, please make sure that you contact the school office to inform us when you will arrive.

On Monday, Mr Holmfield took a team of 12 Easties down to Bendigo for our regional athletics carnival. With two relay teams and students competing in a range of other events, our Easties once again and as always performed well, upholding our East values in every way. Our 4 X 100m boys’ team were able to win their heat and final to book their place at the state carnival later in the term.  The girls relay team won their heat and then narrowly missed a spot at the state carnival by 2 tenths of a second. Well done to all of our athletes and a big thank you to Mr Holmfield for not only taking our athletes on Monday but the power of work he puts in to prepare out students for such events.

With the extreme weather across the state this week and rapidly rising river levels, many of our families and others in our region are facing difficult times over the weekend. Please look out for each other, stay safe and we will see you all back next week.
