Celebration of Learning EveningTuesday 13th September
Last Day of Term 3 - whole day at BuninyongFriday 16th September

Scotsburn Celebration of Learning

Tonight, Scotsburn will host our Term 3 Celebration of Learning. This will take place at Scotsburn between 5.30pm and 7.30pm. The purpose of this evening is to provide students with the opportunity to reflect on their goals and learning, celebrating their amazing learning achievements with their parents and carers. It also provides a wonderful opportunity for our parents and carers to get a first hand insight into what their child is getting up to in all areas of their schooling.

Over the night, students and parents will be able to walk in and out of all learning spaces, which will be showcasing lots of different learning that has taken place this term/year. There will also be the opportunity for parents, guardians and students to participate in some interactive activities.

As you know, all Scotsburn students have worked hard in Art all term to create a pop-up art installation which will glow under 3D lights. We have called this installation our “Glow Garden” and having investigated installations made by other artists, we are now excited to both visit an installation ourselves and also participate in one as artists.

The campus will be running a BBQ on the night, $2 per sausage. Make sure to come and grab a snag or two!

There has been a great deal of work and preparation put into this celebration, and we would love all families and students to attend, hopefully making it another great Scotsburn Community event.

Last Day of Term - Change of Plan

This Friday 16th September (last day of term) we have quite a few things on, and for this reason we have decided that it would be a great opportunity to spend the whole day at the Buninyong Campus.

The following are items that we have on during Friday:

  • Whole school assembly in the morning
  • Footy colours day - if not footy colours, students can wear a top from any sport or team of their choice. Students are asked to collect and bring as many silver coins as possible, rather than a gold coin. Students can add these coins to their favourite football team, with the winner announced at the end of Friday.
  • Sausages and donuts for those that have ordered them
  • Staff vs Students football match for our Grade 6 students
  • Energy Breakthrough session Friday afternoon for select Grade 6 students

As you can see, we have lots on at the Buninyong Campus, making it important that we spend the whole day there. After the whole school assembly, we will utilise various classrooms that are available, minimising as much movement as possible.

We will also use this opportunity to head to the library. Please can you return any overdue books that may be at home.

We will meet everyone in the courtyard at Buninyong at 8.45am, with us also finishing the day at 2.30pm in the courtyard. Any concerns or questions about Friday, please contact any of the Scotsburn staff.

Victorian State School Spectacular

A massive congratulations to Liz, Bethany and Kahlan over the weekend for their involvement in the State School Spectacular. The event looked spectacular! What an amazing experience and event to be involved with . Thank you so much Liz for all of your dedication, preparation and organisation towards ensuring the students were able to attend. I’m sure Kahlan and Beth slept well on Sunday. The event will be televised at a future date, so keep an eye out for that!

Snow Trip

It sounds like Lahnea and Talia had a wonderful experience on the Snow Trip last week. They were able to experience all that Mount Hotham has to offer as well as spend some time with Buninyong Campus students, making lots of new friends. Thanks Mrs Morris for all the hard work that goes into planning and running these trips. If you haven’t already, check out the blog below for lots of photos and updates from the trip.

Lunchtime Club

Last week during Lunchtime Club, students had a chance to explore using Spheros to code and have fun with. These little remote devices are so much fun and it was wonderful to see students interacting and learning with them. Thanks to Gaye and Erin for the amazing experiences this term in Lunchtime Club!

Enrolments for 2023

If you have a child, or know of someone who has a child to enrol in Prep for 2023, please see Ana for an enrolment form, go to the office at Buninyong or access an enrolment form via our school website. We are excited that in line with the current Department of Education guidelines we are able to provide our Pre-Schooler Program during the fourth term as part of our enrolment process. Once you have returned your enrolment form, you will be sent further information to book your child into the Pre-Schooler Program. Please see Ana if you require further information.

Chickens…HELP NEEDED PLEASE!

As the school holidays approach us once again, we would love it if you could please sign up (on the blackboard in the carpark) to help look after our chickens over the school holidays. It would be fantastic if all families volunteered at least once to share the load. Thank you in advance!

Eggs for sale

1 Dozen $6 or ½ dozen $3

If you would like to buy fresh free range eggs from Scotsburn please see Dani in SC2.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

Another term over, Term 3, where did it go?! A big thank you for all your support at home. It has been wonderful to see how many of the students made their reading targets this term.

We have been putting in a considerable amount of time this last week preparing for the Celebration of Learning. We are so excited to share our learning journey with you. Students have been busily creating their Australian Animal diorama, as well as putting their finishing touches on their digital texts, fact posters and non-fiction books. It is wonderful to see the excitement around how proud they are of all their hard work.

We have lots coming up in Term 4. Some of the exciting things are Prep - Two sleepover at school, Swimming Lessons, Transition mornings, Orientation Day, Scotsburn Christmas Concert, just to name a few. Please keep your eye on the newsletter and Compass each week as it will be a busy term!

I hope everyone has a lovely break. Looking forward to seeing you all again in Term 4.

Thanks.

SC2 Learning Snapshot

Last week a group of excited SC2 Grade 3/4 students headed off to Queensclif to Camp Wyuna. We were blessed with beautiful weather to conduct our activities and a brilliant time was had by all. We returned a little tired to our Grade 2 students on Wednesday to continue to work on our information reports. Students have loved inventing their own islands, creating a flag, currency and even unique plants and animals. This week students will be presenting their island to the class.

In Maths we have been looking at Measurement including Length, where we hopped like a frog before measuring the length of our hops, as well as the Area and Perimeter. This will continue to be a focus throughout the rest of the week.

Have a great break,

Dani

SC3 Learning Snapshot

What a busy term we have had in SC3! We have managed to pack in lots of learning and amazing experiences in Term 3 that it will be hard to top! This week, we have been completing lots of preparation for the Celebration of Learning, including publishing our Information Reports, getting the Glow Garden installation ready, setting goals from our Maths Proficiency Scales as well as reflecting on our learning journey in all learning areas. Tonight at our Celebration of Learning evening, it would be great if you could discuss with your child their learning as you wander and explore each space. Some prompting questions that you could use in each area include:

  • What have you been working on in this area?
  • What are some things that you have learnt and improved at?
  • What is a goal for your learning in this area?

We really like students to have ownership of their learning and tonight will be a chance for them to verbalise and discuss their learning in a fun and interactive way.

Last week, SC3 joined SC2 to take part in their second Drama Workshop. During the session, students were required to participate in a range of performing and acting-based activities. The students love these sessions and we are very lucky to have them at our campus. Thanks Mrs Micallef for organising!

The start of Term 4 will come up on us in no time, and in SC3 we have a lot on! In Week 2, we head off on our Halls Gap Camp (12th - 14th October). Please make sure to check Compass for final payment and all information. First week back next term we'll make sure we are all ready to go!

In Week 4, we also have our 2 day Sovereign Hill experience. This amazing experience allows students to fully immerse themselves in the experience of being a child in the Goldfields, including attending school and wearing costumes from the 1850’s. We will provide more information and preparation for this excursion also at the beginning of Term 4, and the event is now on Compass for payment and consent. We can’t wait for this experience!

Have a wonderful and relaxing break,

Jarrod
