Respectful Relationships & Wellbeing News

It has been amazing to see our classes start the term by diving back into our wellbeing programs by using our Berry Street routines in the morning and for class structure with brain breaks and our Respectful Relationships program to explicitly teach wellbeing. This term our students will be doing their learning around out last two topics which is a pillar of the Respectful Relationships program which are

Gender and identity and Positive gender relations

Studies show that school-based violence prevention and respectful relationships initiatives can make a real difference, producing lasting change in attitudes and behaviours in students. Providing explicit classroom programs to all students is a key part of a whole school approach to preventing gender-based violence and promoting positive relationships.

This term we will be breaking down gender stereotypes "an often unfair and untrue belief that many people have about all people or things with a particular characteristic". The supporting teaching and learning materials have been developed by world-leading experts from the University of Melbourne. These age-appropriate resources align to the Victorian Curriculum and include lesson plans and activities that help students learn and practise social skills and apply them in a positive way to learning, life and relationships.

We strongly value the partnership that we have with our families and aim to build this by embedding the Respectful Relationships initiative in our school community.

Throughout the classrooms with  our amazing students we will continue to build on the relationships they have with each other, Sacred Heart is a special place where at any moment we see students all working and playing together, which is something we should all be proud of as a community and Respectful Relationships reinforces these behaviours.
