Principal’s Message

Year 12 - 2022
Year 12 - 2022

The conclusion of last term bought to an end the secondary schooling endeavours of our Year 12 students. On Monday 10th October, their families joined with staff and students to celebrate their graduation.

It has been a pleasure for our teaches and staff to nurture their learning and development over the past six years. On behalf of everyone here at Wee Waa High, we wish each of them all the very best for their HSC exams which start today. May happiness and success be their constant companion in their lives ahead.

Congratulations to our new school leaders who were announced at the Year 12 graduation ceremony. They are; Mackenzie Jones (Captain), Billy Brodigan (Captain), Tanika Slee (Vice Captain) and Charlie Jenkins (Vice Captain). I am sure you will lead our students admirably and I look forward to working closely with you over the next 12 months.

To the Wee Waa Show. It was terrific to see such a vibrant and well attended Wee Waa Show and for our staff and students to be able to take part again after the Show’s two-year hiatus due to Covid 19. Eight of our Agriculture and Primary Industries students represented our Wee Waa High School Show team, they included; Axel Currey, Caitlyn Coutts-Smith, Mackenzie Jones, Cassidy Welsh, Bree Pillar, Eliza Hatton, Ruby Graham and Piper Schwager.

Our Show team wasn't the only area of our students' involvement. Mackenzie Jones, Sarah Jane Horne, Ruby Graham, Rashard Green Katelyn Apps, Mia Kiem, Lizzie Reynolds, Bree Pillar and Isaac Green, submitted a great array of artwork and photography. Congratulations to Dakota Welsh and Brittney Schwager who excelled in the horse events.

Congratulations to our two Young Rural Woman of the Year participants; Mackenzie Jones and Caitlyn Coutts-Smith. Both students are a credit to themselves and reflect very positively on the school. Mackenzie was ultimately awarded the 2022 Young Rural Woman of The Year title for Wee Waa and will go on to compete at a zone level.

I’d like to acknowledge all of our students who participated, our staff who helped in the lead up and during the show as well as the Wee Waa Show committee and everyone who participated in some way. Great shows are only possible when many in the community get behind them.

Recently our Year 7 and 8 students participated in the Illuminate Challenge. Illuminate is a week-long program that develops participants' design thinking, collaboration and entrepreneurial skills and our staff witnessed this first hand as they supported students through each part of the program. Illuminate is the brainchild of Adam Mostogl, this wonderful learning and development opportunity was bought to our school by the university of New England's Smart Region Incubator and the Narrabri Shire Council.

The inaugural Namoi Jobs & Trades Show was an incredible opportunity for all of our students to connect with local employers and discussed training and career opportunities. The feedback from staff and students was very positive and we look forward to engaging our students with this opportunity again. Thank you to the Narrabri Industrial Network Inc (NIN) and Narrabri Shire's Future EDU for making this terrific opportunity possible.

Lastly, to our terrific young athletes who participated in the state athletics finals in Homebush recently. They include; Emily Hartnett, Megan Crutcher, Jordan Lonnen, Bella Suckling, Matilda Currey and Samantha Marchant. You did yourselves and Wee Waa High proud. So too did our state final lawn bowls finalists; Kyne Allen, Brock Allen and Hunter Doring. There is no doubt that sport is alive and well represented by students at Wee Waa High School.

To all of our staff, welcome back. Here’s to a great Term 4 and thank you for your dedication and contribution to our school and students.

Yours sincerely

Jacqueline Neil
