Room 14

On Fridays, Willetton Senior High School students come to our class and read stories. We talk about the book, look at illustrations and answer questions that improve our comprehension of the stories we are hearing.

Talk for Writing

Our class is focussing on the book, Possum Magic, by Mem Fox. We are learning about Australia and its states and territories as well as where we are in space. The children are trying to understand that we are actually in space on the planet Earth, which has led to some interesting discussions about why we don’t fall off Earth, how we aren’t inside the planet and how Earth has daytime and nighttime.

The children learned that specific instructions are needed when we try to explain how to make a vegemite sandwich, and this led to some hilarious actions as the children realised that we need more information in the steps. After explaining the steps to the teachers, the children were given the opportunity to make their own vegemite sandwiches. Some children had their first taste of vegemite.

Lego Store

The children wanted to have a Lego Store in the classroom. After collecting empty Lego boxes, money, and Lego bags the shop opened. Thank you, Miss Adam for making our Lego Store.

Aboriginal Decodable readers

SPELD SA has introduced some awesome early readers that embed Aboriginal culture and stories. After making the stories, the children were keen to read them to each other.

Room 15

This term in Room 15, we’ve been excited to learn our new Talk for Writing text, ‘How to Catch a Star’. It’s been fun learning a Procedure text. We have been practicing giving clear instructions by playing Barrier games and it has been interesting seeing the results.

We’ve been preparing to innovate our text and brainstormed ways to catch a star. We’re very proud of our artwork!

In HASS, we have been learning about where we are in the world. We made our own community buildings and then our houses. As a team, we’ve used our constructions to build and then play with our communities. Choosing our neighbours has been our favourite part.

Room 16a

We love our Literacy programme, Talk 4 Writing. The children started in Term 3, with The Little Red Hen and all innovated the story to transform it into their own narrative. Such amazing imaginations! To finish off this topic we created a diorama for the farm animals to live in.

Surprisingly our wheat is still alive!

In Numeracy the children have been enjoying a range of number games, and activities that involve volume, capacity, length and weight concepts. All activities have been hands on and loads of fun while they learn and experiment.

Other activities we are enjoying include, EDU Dance on Wednesday’s, the Doctors Surgery and the 100 piece puzzles. To celebrate Diwali, The Festival of Lights, we created bright coloured salt Rangoli designs.
