NSW Public Schools Year 9 Drama Ensembles

The Ensembles program develops high potential and gifted students in drama.

Think of this like a representative sport and making the state-wide softball team, except it’s drama and the arts! Essentially your student/s are representing the state in drama.

They performed at the State Drama Festival evening performance on Thursday 20th and matinee and evening performance Friday 21st October.

Students include:

Maggie Crowley, Charlotte Earp, Sophie MacRae, Sasha Morey, Ruby Duggan, Elsa Grasselli, Josie Ritter, Zahra Singh

Well done all!

Student Support Officer Update

I have been busy continuing to get to know all of the students at the school, and identifying ways that I can support both the students and staff, and all of the wonderful outcomes that Canterbury Girls High School achieves. If students are needing someone to chat to or some additional support, I am available most recess and lunch times to chat. I am in the Learning Hub for the remainder of term 4 and will return to my office in the library in 2023. If you see me around, feel free to say hello!

Breakfast Club shows no signs of slowing down, this term we have had to relocate to our largest classroom on site in order to accommodate the amount of students that are coming through to hang out and eat breaky every morning. For anyone who has yet to come and check it out, we are in B7 from 8am every morning.

We recently wrapped up our Raise Mentoring program for 2022, with a graduation celebration for the year 8 & 9 students that were involved. The program allowed the select students to meet up with their mentor for 1 period a week and work through some topics to help with their confidence and personal growth. The change seen in these students was honestly incredible and I felt very lucky to have been a part of this program. We are fortunate enough to be able to run this program again next year and are looking forward to matching up to 15 year 8 & 9 students with a mentor in 2023.

Congratulations to Aysha Sabouni, Melia Antonopoulos, Saraya Kabbara, Chanelle Rakeimata and Zoe Taylor on your completion of the Raise Mentoring program.

Our Monday LGBTQIA+ Group has continued throughout term 3 & 4. The students have enjoyed the safe space provided and we have plans to welcome the new faces of any identifying year 7’s in the new year.

In term 2 & 3, we had a group for selected junior students, to support them to further develop their organisation and planning skills. The group also focused on things like help seeking, stress management, sleep and goal setting. This group has recently shrunk in size, with students feeling like they had taken a lot from their time in the group. The remainder have continued on with me to term 4, and we continue to solidify the skills and knowledge that we have been working on throughout the year. I look forward to being able to provide this group again to some of our new year 7’s in 2023.

Canterbury Girls HS year 11 students were lucky enough to have an opportunity to participate in a ‘HSC Stress Management’ presentation on Friday 28 October. The presentation was run by The Kidman Institute at the University of Technology – Sydney. The facilitator shared with us all, some handy tips for managing our stress levels and harnessing our stress and using it as motivation for study

I can’t wait to continue working on new and exciting programs and activities and providing support and guidance to the students of Canterbury Girls High School in 2023.
