MTC AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

In 2022, Seffra Tienstra (Year 11) was successfully appointed as an Ambassador as part of the prestigious program at Melbourne Theatre Company. Youth Ambassadors are offered the chance to extend their knowledge and experience by attending Melbourne Theatre Company productions and sharing their responses to theatre with a group of like-minded young people.

After an amazing year of watching world-class theatre, here is what Seffra had to say about her experience:

“Movies will make you famous; Television will make you rich; But theatre will make you good.” (Terrence Mann)

If my theatre journey has taught me anything, it is that theatre is beautiful.

There is beauty in not understanding.

There is beauty in confusion.

There is beauty in thinking, wondering and questioning.

And there is beauty in not and maybe never understanding something.

Theatre opens a window for curious minds. A window into not only thinking bigger, but wider. A wider meaning or a few wider meanings that have connections and different messages. This opportunity has been wonderful. To meet such fabulous and enthusiastic other people through the MTC Ambassador program with amazing skills and big dreams or big achievements was a privilege I am grateful for. To meet such hard-working actors, directors or designers with such unique stories about their claim to fame or their claim to passion and to see the results of their endurance. It was inspiring and invaluable. It has been emphasised to me time and again, that theatre is a mystery. One I am interested in investigating.

Because theatre tells you everything. And nothing. Exactly like this passage.

PAST PERFORMANCES

Congratulations to all the music students who have been undertaking their AMEB performance exams over the past month and will continue for the remainder of November.

Congratulations to all the Percussion Students who performed in an amazing performance on Friday 4 November at the Main Campus. There was such a high level of artistry and technique on display. Thank you to Sergei Golovko for his preparation of these students and to Dmitry Serebrianik for his assistance.

Year 8 students are currently in the process of recording their End of Semester Performances, and many students are working with the technicians in the recording studio. We are looking forward to hearing their pieces and seeing the film clips (music videos) that they create as part of this assessment.
