INTERMEDIATE BOYS/GIRLS TABLE TENNIS SMR FINALS
After progressing from the Kingston Divisional competitions earlier in the year, the McKinnon Intermediate Boys and Girls Table Tennis teams participated in the School Sport Victoria Southern Metro Regional Finals at the Dandenong Table Tennis Association on Thursday 27 October 2022.
The McKinnon squads performed admirably against some very strong teams in the region.
- Girls section (Year 9 Students): Mia Milner, Amelie Hicks, Ava Wilson, Mia Cashmore, Gloris George and Ella Yang
- Boys section: Timothy Nicolaides (Year 10), Jasper Wong (Year 9), Tiago Queiroz (Year 10) and Michal Foroncewicz (Year10)
In the Round Robin stage, the Girls Team came 3rd in their group after a strong performance, especially Ella Yang (Year 9) who was undefeated in all her singles matches. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough for them to advance to the next round.
For the Boys Team, they played consistently in their pool matches, winning 5-1 and 6-0 in their first two matches while great teamwork in the doubles allowed them to win their pool narrowly against Patterson River Secondary College 3-3 (14-9 in tiebreak). As a result, the Boys team qualified to play in the SMR Final later in the day. Unfortunately, they could not overcome the more experienced Nossal High School in the Final and had to settle for 2nd place despite a stellar performance from Jasper Wong (Year 9) who won all his singles matches on the day.
As a result, the Boys team took home the RUNNER-UP pennant for the Southern Metro Region.
Well done.
