THE LANGUAGES SOCIETY AT EAST CAMPUS MADE WAFFLES

On Thursday 2 November, the East Campus language leaders cooked and sold waffles with the assistance of Ms Zikou and Ms Karro. Proceeds from the sales were donated to Living Languages.

Milana Gavrilenko from Year 9 wrote this report of the activity:

The Language Society has been planning a special day to celebrate food and culture! We started brainstorming and thinking of ideas that are fun and can be helpful for other people. Towards the end of term 3, we had an idea to have a Waffle day! Waffles are a Belgian and German breakfast food that can be served with fruit, whipped cream or even ice cream. And that's what we decided to do!

We met up together once a week putting together ideas to make this day the best it can be! We found four waffle machines, a charity to donate to, (‘Living Languages supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are working to maintain, revitalise and reclaim their languages’ is the charity we decided to donate to) a date for the cooking and the ingredients. Finally, on Thursday 3 November, the seven of us: Romani Parrish, Alice Hollingsworth, Maleesha Dharmadasa, Anya Aquende, Christina Tan and Madame Lynd and I, with the extremely important assistance of Ms Karro and Ms Zikou, prepared waffles for the sale. We spent nearly the full day cooking waffles. Although I accidentally forgot a full cup of flour in one of the batters, we still prepared nearly 50 delicious and scrumptious waffles in 1 hour!

We prepared strawberries, whipped cream and icing sugar to serve with the waffles. The whole of East Campus was filled with mouthwatering smells of freshly cooked waffles. And soon enough we had people running up to us to taste our meal.

Overall it was a really successful day and we were able to raise money for the charity! It was an amazing experience and make sure to look out for any other future sales/activities from the Language Society!

LANGUAGE TRIPS TO NEW CALEDONIA

Creipac is an organisation that runs French classes in New Caledonia. It organised a trip for Year 11 students in Victoria during the September 2022 holidays. Parents who are interested in a séjour linguistique in New Caledonia for their children can contact Valerie Meunier, director of Creipac. It is an opportunity for students while schools get back on track with overseas trips, particularly with the new compliance requirements by DET.

With CREIPAC, parents contact them directly and do not have to go through their school. French Language Holidays | Language Courses in Noumea | New Caledonia
