‘YOUKOSO’ (Welcome) to the Upwey South Japanese Room!

Welcome back everyone!

Hope you have been having a lovely start to the new term.

The following is the term 4 overview.

Foundation: ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’

Foundation students are going to develop more vocabulary through the famous story book ‘HARAPEKO AOMUSHI (The Very Hungry Caterpillar)’, by Eric Carle. They are going to learn action words, fruits, more animals, and important phrases related to the story.

Year 1 and 2: ‘MOTTAINAI BAASAN’ (‘Mottainai’ grandma) & ‘Treasure Hunt in 3 worlds’

Grade 1/2 students will continue to work on their ‘Mottainai baasan’ book, then they are going to learn about the three types of Japanese script – Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji by exploring each world of script. Through their ‘treasure hunt’ adventure, the students will start to recognise the characteristics and differences among the three types of writing.

Year 3 and 4: Hiragana Black Belt Challenge (Continued)

Grade 3/4 students will continue to develop their Hiragana reading skills through a lot of fun activities. They are going to consolidate the Hiragana letters they have learnt by making their own Hiragana book. They will also have the opportunities to take the belt challenge tests aiming to earn their Hiragana black belt.

Year 5 and 6: ‘MOTTAINAI BAASAN’ (‘Mottainai’ grandma) & Japan Guidebook

Grade 5/6 students will continue to learn about ‘Mottainai baasan (Mottainai grandma)’ on sustainability. They are going to work on their sustainability poster incorporating Japanese writing. Further to this they will revise and celebrate their learning through working on their ‘Japan Guidebook’.

Hope you have a lovely term!

Arigatou!
