What a busy few weeks we have had in the Health & Physical Education Curriculum!
Curriculum Update
Foundation:
Over the past few weeks, the Foundation Students have focused on refining and practising their Locomotor skills. This has been achieved through stationed activities which included such exercises as ring toss, paddle board and balance beam. Once the students demonstrate a strong level of confidence, we moved into out unit of two-handed strike. We explored the techniques and motions involved with striking a stationary and moving ball with a pool noodle
Year One/Two:
Over the past few weeks, the Level 1 and 2 students have focused on the two-handed strike technique. The purpose of this unit was to build confidence within the motion required to strike both a moving and stationary objects. To learn the required techniques, we utilised pool noodles to enable the students to have a light object in their hand before moving to a tennis racquet. Once we progressed to the tennis racquet, we allowed the students to throw and catch bean bags with them. This taught the students the importance about control when throwing the object (imitating hitting a tennis ball) and moving to catch the bean bag (imitating a return strike of a tennis ball).
Year Three/Four:
Over the past few weeks, the Level 3 & 4 students have completed a two-week unit on golf. Within the unit the students were able to practise three different swing types, driving, chipping and putting. Each type of swing required the students to adopt the two-handed strike technique. To conclude the unit, the students played a game of mini-golf in the gym. The purpose of this was to teach the students the important of controlling their swing and aiming towards a target.
Our next unit will be delivered by Sporting Schools and will be a great opportunity for the students to be exposed to a new game which is called Ultimate Frisbee. This unit will focus on the students throwing, catching, movement and teamwork skills.

District Summer Sport
On Thursday 6th October our Level 5-6 students participated in the District Summer Sport Carnival. Our students either competed in Volleyball at Tecoma Primary or Basketball at Dandenong Basketball Stadium.
Our volleyballers had a great day with one of the main highlights being the team spirit and resilience that was on display. One of our girls team placed 3rd overall on the day which was an amazing result.
Our basketballers also enjoyed a fantastic day which was filled with fun and some amazing skills and teamwork. We must congratulate our girls basketball team who went through undefeated and will now represent our school at the Division Carnival.
Regional Athletics
Three of our superstar students Jacob, Pippa and Skylar all competed at the Regional Athletics carnival on Thursday 20th October at Doncaster Athletics Track. As always, to reach this level is a fantastic achievement in itself. To see the determination from each of our athletes on the day was amazing and something they should be proud of. These three now have a platform to build upon for next year as I am sure they will continue to develop and succeed. Congratulations on a wonderful achievement!
