THIS TERM IN INQUIRY

States of Matter

This term we are asking "What's the Matter?" as we dive into the world of Science. Our students are exploring the three states of matter: solids, liquids and gases. So far, we have modelled what the particles look like in solid objects, liquids and gases. Later this term, we will be exploring whether matter can change states and how.

What happens when we apply heat to a liquid?

What happens when we apply heat to a solid?

Can one type of matter move through all three states?

We will explore these questions through experiments in the classroom.

THIS TERM IN ENGLISH

READING

This term we are reading the book ‘Enchanted Wood’ by Enid Blyton. ‘Enchanted Wood’, by Enid Blyton is a great book full of enchanting characters and new surprises in each chapter.

This term the students have been working hard to use new reading strategies such as predicting what might happen in a text just by analysing the front cover of the book. The students are now beginning to find their ‘good fit’ books with many students moving onto more difficult reading challenges.

The students have been working on their reading skills by completing 15 minutes of independent reading every day. Teachers are beginning to assess students’ comprehension and reading skills as we are now beginning to write student reports.

We look forward to finishing ‘Enchanted Wood’ and finding out what happens at the end of the book!

‘Enchanted Wood’

When Joe, Beth and Frannie move to a new home, an Enchanted Wood is on their doorstep. And when they discover the Faraway Tree, that is the beginning of many magical adventures! Join them and their friends Moonface, Saucepan Man and Silky the fairy as they discover which new land is at the top of the Faraway Tree. Will it be the Land of Spells, the Land of Treats, or the Land of Do-As-You-Please? There'll be adventures waiting for them, whatever happens!

Funny, magical adventures that will delight children again and again. Enid Blyton is one of the most-loved authors in children's publishing. With over 700 titles published, Enid Blyton's stories remain timeless classics, adored throughout the world.

WRITING

This term, the year three and four students are studying various aspects of poetry. The styles we are exploring include: acrostic poetry, diamante poetry, shape poetry, colour and sensory poetry, cinquain poetry and simile poetry. There are some amazing poets in the middle school and the students are really enjoying this writing unit thus far. Please enjoy reading through some of the published pieces.

CAMP

We cant wait to attend our upcoming camp to Forest Edge in Neerim East. Please remember to have all of your child's clothes named. We will be sending through some updates throughout the duration of camp onto Compass.
