Follow the Dream Casual Tutor Job Description 

Follow the Dream Tutors work under the direction of the Program Coordinator to enhance the learning outcomes, capabilities and positive well-being of students who access the after-school tuition centre, and other opportunities which the program provides.

 

Position Description

Position Title: Follow the Dream Tutor

Rate of Pay: $50.69 per hour for qualified applicants (Bachelor’s in Education or equivalent); $40 per hour for unqualified applicants

Type: Casual

Reports to: Program Co-ordinator

Required: NT Working with Children Card (Ochre Card), NT Mandatory Reporting Training

 

Key Accountabilities

The Tutor will work with students individually or in groups to:

  • Reinforce knowledge, practice skills and develop understandings across a range of subject areas 
  • Provide subject area expertise to support the completion of assessment tasks
  • Facilitate guided learning, use of technology, group collaboration and problem-solving activities
  • Assist or deliver creative, sporting, cultural and cross-curricular experiences
  • Encourage participation, collaboration, persistence, teamwork, and critical thinking 
  • Model positive attitudes, and support a sense of belonging amongst program participants and staff

The Tutor must:                

  • Provide student support as requested by the student, directed by the Program Coordinator and/or outlined in planning documents, to the best of your ability. Clarification should be sought, as required.
  • Comply with the guidelines and procedures of the Polly Farmer Foundation and Department of Education, as well as the Professional and Safety Standards and Policies.
  • Provide a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment. This includes supervising and managing the behaviour of students that is consistent with the Follow the Dream and Department’s code of Conduct.  
  • Report any concerns about student well-being or safety to the Program Co-ordinator.
  • Be punctual and prepared to lead activities to which you are assigned.
  • Dress and conduct yourself in a professional and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Assist with food preparation, student supervision and organisational tasks as requested by the Program Co-ordinator. 
  • Provide feedback to the Program Co-ordinator on a regular basis about student performance conduct and program operations. 
  • Communicate in a timely manner with the Program Co-ordinator in regards to availability.
  • Contribute ideas and participate in the planning of activities that provide interesting experiences and opportunities for students.
  • Obtain a current Northern Territory with Working with Children Clearance (OCHRE card) prior to commencing work with the Follow the Dream program and maintain this clearance throughout their employment with the Polly Farmer Foundation. At any time, the Polly Farmer Foundation reserves the right to request a Tutor to renew their OCHRE card and/or acquire a National Police Check.
  • Tutors are required to complete all training prescribed by the Polly Farmer Foundation in relation to fulfilling their role and ensuring the safety of children. This includes Mandatory Reporting, Working with Vulnerable People and Cultural Awareness.

Salary & Benefits

Hours are 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Monday and Wednesday (SPC) afternoons during the school term.

Residential Boarding Supervisor, Girls' Boarding 

Commencing the 2023 academic year, St Philip’s College is seeking to fill a position of full-time Residential Boarding Supervisor in the Girls’ Boarding House.  The primary role is to support the academic, social, and emotional well-being of boarding students.

 

Our ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role and be available to work various evening shifts Monday to Friday and various weekend shifts, on a rotational basis. This position will be working in Girls' Boarding. 

 

Essential: 

  • Previous experience working with young people in a boarding environment 
  • High level of interpersonal skills with strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • Ability to be respectful, firm, fair, and consistent in the delivery of discipline when required
  • Understanding of the legal and duty of care responsibilities of boarding facilities or schools
  • Possess a flexible attitude and be willing to work rotating shifts throughout the week
  • Current driving licence would be an advantage
  • First Aid Certificate, or prepared to obtain
  • A valid Working with Children (Ochre Card) or the ability to obtain

Desirable: 

Certificate IV Community Services, or similar
