Chaplain's Message

Do you ever open your eyes and realise that you have a real sense of wellbeing – the day looks good, and your spirit is restful. Immediately, like ugly tentacles, your mind sends out feelers to find something to worry about, something that you clearly have forgotten to be concerned about, somebody that’s upset you?

It is almost as if you feel that you do not deserve to be stress free – worry free –or just free! During a difficult time in my life, I relied very much on the Psalms to fill in the gaps for me. Psalm 37 was very much an inspiration as I sort after the elusive peace of mind promised in the Bible. My tendency to “fret” was not helpful! However, I return to these words of wisdom over and over and allow them to seep into my soul – concentrating intently on each verse as I read it – sometimes aloud. And Peace like a river flows, melting away stress and anxiety like warm butter!

Psalm 37

1 Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong;

2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.

3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:

6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.

7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.

The Gloria

“Glory to God in the highest,

Peace to people on earth,

We praise you; we bless you,

We adore you; we glorify you

Lord God Heavenly King,

O God, Father Almighty.

Actually, we are made for worship – there is a little spot in our hearts specially made to hold our praises and if we don’t fill it with the right “stuff”, we end up trying to fill it with things that are not good for us. We are designed to be loving, forgiven and free, ready to walk humbly and justly with our God.

Take care and go safely.
