SPC Cycling Central
SPC BMX racers were lucky enough to go to the National Championships in Launceston Tasmania last week with a huge week of racing. It all started with a Pre-Champs Event where our students really started to warm up to Tasmania. Then there was the National Round 6 which saw many of the local riders duking it out as they refined their times on the track and contestants grew in numbers. SPC stars of BMX really gave it a nudge with Caleb in 5th, Reece 8th and Kit in 17th as they got to know the local track and conditions. The main event ran over 3 days due to the huge number of contestants eager to score a National plate (these are given to riders that place between 1st and 8th in their final) and be able to display and race with it on their bike until the next National Championships. All of our riders and local Red Centre Riders that competed have been training hard over the course of many years. Recently stepping it up for this huge week of racing at the Nationals. The effort it has taken for them to get there and compete, along with the commitment that they and their families have made is just amazing. Many of them may be a little disappointed with some of their results but we know that this is just a hurdle as they will strive harder in 2023.
National Results below and you can check out all the results here https://our.sqorz.com/org/acbmxracing
- Reece Cole - Raced in Jnr Superclass in a highly competitive field and ranked 15th in 15 Boys
- Kit Williams – Ranked 26 in a huge field of 17-24 Men. These guys are racing for their lives and in many cases racing faster than the elites!
- Caleb Nichols – Ranked 20th in 13 boys
- It should be noted that 2 of our incoming students for 2023 smashed it in Tasmania. Cooper Drew scored 2nd in Australia in his field of 11 boys with twin Dysen coming in 12th. Amazing efforts and we look forward to them joining us next year.
- Red Centre Riders combined placed their club at 46 of the 97 clubs represented which is awesome considering the small number of our riders competing
Velodrome training and racing continues for the next few weeks with Year 9 Smarts class already having two sessions on the track building confidence and speed. Students gained more insights as Redge Hatch and Mike Heyburn from Alice Springs Cycling Club assisted with bikes and instruction. Riders skinnied up into a closer pace line than they did the week before and took a series of turns out the front of the pack. They also put down some solid times for the flying 200mt event. This involves warming and building up pace for a couple of laps as they build right up to the top of the cement before accelerating to maximum effort as they drop into the sprinter's lane at ludicrous speeds.
ASCC runs training for juniors on Tuesdays from 4pm till 5pm and races on Thursdays from 7pm. Feel free to check it out or ask us for more info.
