Principal's Message

Diverse ~ Accepting ~ Inclusive Community

Dear Parents, Families and Friends,

The word 'advent' is from the Latin word 'Adventus' meaning "coming". Of course, Christmas is coming! With much anticipation, we look forward to this important event on the Christian calendar and a well-deserved holiday break. However, in my mind, while it is exciting that Christmas is just around the corner, it is also important to finish well. I want to thank parents and students for seeing the school year through to the end. I congratulate you on meeting the many academic commitments while attending various end-of-year community events such as the Soiree, the Year 10 play, the Kurt Hahn car wash and bake sale, and house and tutor group activities. Some say that we are a "school that never sleeps", and this certainly feels like the case at the moment. Staff are working tirelessly to mark assessments and complete reporting, yet they still come to school with a commitment to teach and care for our students. I am incredibly grateful for their hard work.

But back to Advent: I thoroughly enjoyed our Advent Service this week and our Chaplain's, Sarah Pollitt's, explanations of Christmas symbols and rituals. The service included beautiful carols, and I congratulate all students for listening and participating respectfully. Highlights for me were undoubtedly the staff choir singing 'O Little Town of Bethlehem', Lene Clarsen-Waters singing 'Mary, Did You Know?' and Kelisha Freminot's soulful rendition of 'Little Drummer Boy.' The service was a great reminder of what we stand for as a community: excitement for what is 'coming' but a reverent celebration for what is good and right.

Here's to the wonderful Advent season that lies ahead.

Be Kind Always.
