Grade One

General:

This term we have seen our students make their final jump towards completing Grade 1 with pride and determination. Their growth mindset towards new learning experiences has reflected their readiness for Grade 2! They have celebrated our Oatlands community through our Dance Production and also achieved many personal milestones while building social connections with peers and their buddies. We wish our students a wonderful summer break and the very best as they transition into Grade 2!

English:

This term, students explored poetry where they displayed their creativity through acrostic, sensory, alliteration and simple rhyme poems. Grade 1 students really showcased their expanding vocabulary bank through their descriptive language choices. Students also experimented with persuasive writing through texts that modelled opinions and supporting reasons. They participated in simple debates sharing arguments for and against selected topics. Grade 1 students recently completed their take-home reader process for the year and have blown their teachers away with the immense growth they have achieved in their fluency and overall comprehension.

Mathematics:

In Maths, students have engaged with and consolidated their current understandings of various mathematical concepts. In addition, students made connections with real world situations. We also celebrated Oatlands 25 years of learning by connecting the number 25 to various topics such as data, sharing, modelling and partitioning. Furthermore students had fun designing and creating a prop for the 2022 Dance Production. They engaged with the concepts of measurement. Finally, in conjunction with Technology, students were given the opportunity to utilise their skills to modify a favourite toy from home. This allowed them to continue making connections and engage further in all areas of learning in the classroom.

Integrated Studies:

Students continued their learning within our Inquiry Unit ~ Connections Through the Generations. We used Google Earth to research our local area, including connections to our school. Students used this information to explore the Aboriginal culture and learnt the origins of our school, street name and suburb. We then moved on to celebrating our school’s history by connecting to the 25th Anniversary celebrations and fete. Students are now creating a toy museum to discover connections between toys from the past and present. They will use technology, including cameras and online platforms to present their innovations on the features of their toy.
