Week 1 Term 1
Welcome Back!
Hello everyone, welcome back to StFX for the 2023 school year! It promises to be an exciting year full of learning and fun.
At the end of 2022 all students received a list of things to bring to begin the school year in 2023. If you haven’t already done so please bring these items to school asap. Please make sure all items are well named and labeled.
Term 1 - all students must wear a hat when outside at recess and lunch and when participating in sporting activities. Please make sure hats are clearly named and labeled. No hat, no play! We always encourage students to wear sunscreen during these outdoor times.
Curriculum
Maths: Our term 1 topics will be:
Statistics and Probability
Data representation and Interpretation
Number and Algebra
Counting and Place Value, Addition, Subtraction and Multiplication
Measurement and Geometry
2D Shape
Inquiry: Our term 1 topic is Identity.
The Rationale behind this unit: By understanding who I am, and how I have changed, I am better able to navigate challenging situations.
We'll investigate:
-Managing challenging situations
-Cultural and Personal identities
-Health messages in the media
Inquiry Essential Questions:
-What are some strategies to handle challenging situations?
-How do I ask questions about different personal and cultural identities?
-How do I know which health messages in the media to trust?
Education in Faith: We will be linking the work we do in Education in Faith with our Inquiry topic of Identity. We will also have a focus on the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Lent and Easter.
Specialists Classes:
Monday - Italian and Performing Arts
Tuesday - Physical Education, Running Club and Library
Thursday - STEM and Visual Arts

Wednesday 1st March - Wellbeing Incursion (whole school)
Friday 3rd March - Welcome Picnic and Kaboom Sports Evening
Friday 17th March - Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness
Tuesday 28th March - Sacrament of First Reconciliation 6pm
Friday 31st March - Bayside District Track Athletics (Ballam Park)
