Box Hill TAFE Battle of the Bands!

Mullauna’s Rock/Metal band “Ignition Theory” wins Battle of the Bands competition with half its members, and only two days of practice.

Ignition Theory is a student run band that has participated in many school concerts and events.

Seeking to expand, Ignition Theory decided to apply for the “Battle of the Bands” competition at Box Hill TAFE. After weeks of missed calls, the band assumed that they had been forgotten about or were simply too late with their application.  Two days before the concert they received a call informing them that a place had opened up. The band immediately went into panic due to their bassist and vocalist being unable to perform. An emergency rehearsal was immediately organised and a setlist agreed upon. The songs chosen were Shepherd of Fire – By Avenged Sevenfold, Drum Solo – By Ryan Alexander, Nightmare – By Avenged Sevenfold, and Master of Puppets by Metallica.

On the night of the performance, the Ignition Theory band members were watching the other bands play. “I’d be amazed if we come anywhere but last” said Ryan Taylor (lead guitar). Despite the odds, the band played their hearts out and managed to secure 1st place. The band’s prize was 2 free hours in a professional recording studio!

“It was just everything about your performance that set you apart. The energy you all put in, the way the guitar seemed to have a voice of its own, and more importantly, how well synced you all were is what set you apart from the other bands.” said one of the judges.

Ignition Theory plans to continue expanding by playing more shows outside school and potentially recording a demo within the next year. Videos of the performance can be found on the band’s Instagram and YouTube pages.
