2023 Year 3

Meet our wonderful teachers...

Year 3A: Ciona Cox (Team Leader)

Hello wonderful SMPS community,

My name is Miss Ciona and I will be teaching 3A in 2023. This will be my 8th year in teaching and my second as Team Leader of Year 3. I am really looking forward to getting know all the students and their families. There are so many exciting moments to come in Grade 3!

I grew up in Scotland with my mum, dad and two older brothers. As a child I spent most of my time outdoors exploring the Scottish countryside and all the picture-perfect landscapes it has to offer. Think castles, snow covered mountains and hoping to catch a glimpse of the Loch Ness Monster.

I began my teaching career in Scotland before moving to Melbourne in 2020. This will be my fourth year at South Melbourne Primary School.

Outside of school you can often find me painting, exploring the outdoors or sampling all the amazing food Melbourne has to offer. Last year, I welcomed a beautiful Australian Shepherd puppy called Juniper into my life.

I am really looking forward to another fantastic year at SMPS.

Year 3B: Megan Hartwick

Hello SMPS students and families!

My name is Miss Megan and I will be teaching 3B in 2023. This will be my 7th year in teaching and my 5th year at SMPS. I am really looking forward to getting know all the students and their families. There are so many exciting moments to come in 2023!

I grew up in Canada and did not move to Melbourne until 2017. I spent most of my childhood outside with my family, including camping or playing in the snow nearly every weekend and going on long hikes and canoe trips. Before I became a teacher, I worked at a Summer Camp for five years, which explains why I love organising and going on School Camp so much now as a teacher!

Outside of school, I love to spend time outside, read, and make music. I also love cooking, especially making recipes from my Italian heritage. In 2021, I adopted a greyhound named Emmy and I love taking her for walks on the beach.

I am really looking forward to another amazing year at SMPS.

Year 3C: Shannon Sim

Hello SMPS students and families!

My name is Miss Shannon and I will be teaching Year 3C in 2023. This will be my fourth year teaching, but my first year at SMPS! I am so excited to get to know all the students, families and staff here. I know that it is going to be an amazing year.

I grew up in New Zealand and spent most of my childhood on a dairy farm out in the country with my Mum, Dad and two younger sisters. I recently moved to Melbourne in July 2022 and am so happy I took the leap and landed here.

I am that person who is obsessed with cats. My home here is very quiet considering I lived with three very cheeky and talkative cats back in New Zealand, (not to worry, they are safe and sound with my Mum who is equally obsessed with them).

Outside of school you can find me playing or watching sport, going on adventures and hikes in the outdoors, or reading a good book.

I hope you have a great holiday and I look forward to meeting you all soon.
