Year 1 Unit
What animals have no backbone and make up 97% of all animals on earth…..invertebrates!
Yes, this term the year one students are learning all about the slimy, slithery, spiky and splendid world of minibeasts.
Our students were very excited to take part in a minibeasts incursion this week. They expanded on their already impressive knowledge of creepy critters through a range of interactive activities. Students handled butterflies and yabbies in a big tent, viewed insects up close with microscopes and designed a bright wrist band to warn off predators.
Here are our students enjoying the incursion…
In Writing, students are learning to use their knowledge of minibeasts to write information reports. We have been learning the structure of information reports and how to write for a specific audience.
We have also loved hearing about the minibeasts that students have found at home and have shared with the class during Show and Tell!
In Maths, we have been focusing on consolidating place value concepts and students have been making numbers including bundling a range of concrete materials into tens and ones. We have also begun to explore 3D shapes and are looking at their features. We encourage you to share in discussions with your child about 3D shapes that you can spot together at home and in the environment.
All the best from the Year One team.
