Art

Art Newsletter Term Two May 2022

Students spent the first few weeks of term two completing their Pop Art paintings. The students really enjoyed exploring artists Andy Warhol, Kaws, Keith Haring and Bansky. Students used images from mass media, such as comic books, food items, clothing and toys to create their artworks.

We have begun the clay unit once again focusing on Pop Art, particularly looking at the collectable toys of artist KAWS, to inspire us. Students will use various clay techniques such as pinch pots, coils and slab construction to make their toy sculptures. These will later be painted in bold colours in the style of KAWS’s toys.

Craft

We have almost completed our felting unit putting the final touches on each craft item. Students in Foundation class have completed their felt stress balls and have begun working on their stitched hessian bags. Class one have also finished their felt stress balls and are finalising their felt mobiles before beginning work on their stitched reorder bags. Class two have completed their treasure boxes and these look amazing. The students can't wait to take them home so they can put their special little things. Class three are finalising their felted wall hangings based on the story by Aunty Joy Murphy, Welcome to Country.  In classes four/five and five/six students are needle felting the final details of their house designs. All students in craft will begin the clay unit focusing on their class main lesson topics to inform their clay works.

To support student learning, parents and carers are invited back into the craft room. You will need a current working with children check. Please sign in at the office before you come to the art room.
