Year 5/6—Celebrating Learning

4/5/6 - Mainstream

Maths

4/5/6 students have just completed a Measurement and Geometry unit in Mathematics, where they looked at identifying different units of measurement used in Australia and around the world. They then looked at accurate ways to measure and calculate length, perimeter and area. They use tools such as tape measures and incorporated formulae to calculate perimeters and areas when given lengths too large to measure.

Unit Focus

This term 4/5/6 students Unit Focus is Biological Science and Adaptation. Students have been looking at ways to conduct experiments, including writing procedures, creating recording tables, making observations and explaining results.

5/6S - Steiner

Finally the infamous Botany Main Lesson

This past month both 5/6S and 4/5S have been learning about the plant world and the different forms that grow, from the dark dwelling mushrooms that look to the earth, all the way up to the tippy tops of conifers. During our journey we have been annotating our drawings and sketches while learning the scientific terms of plants, with the joy of making some of our artworks into watercolour masterpieces. Below are some images of student work and their thoughts on the main lesson.

Euca says “It’s interesting to learn about plants and their growth cycles.”

Talon says “I have always loved watercolour painting and I really enjoyed creating artwork about flowers.”

Annabelle says “It was fun drawing and painting the plants, and I like how much art we got to make.”

Wolfie says “It was really good, I liked all the drawings, the watercolouring, and all the learning about the plants.”

Adelie says “It was fun because we were able to make so much artwork.”

Lily says “It was good, I really appreciated the lessons and the drawing experience.”
