2022 Careers and Pathways Programs

Coming Up

Year 9 Morrisby Interviews: have commenced and will be published on Simon/PAM Careers Notices. Prior to an interview being made, Year 9 students need to submit to Simon two tasks (Copy of their Morrisby Profile Report and completed Student Workbook – Reflecting on my Morrisby Profile). Further details are on Simon > Learning Areas > Year 9 Careers

Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews

Mrs Martin will be available for careers and pathways interviews on Wednesday 4 and 11 May from 4pm until 5.30pm. Please contact MSCW Admin to schedule an appointment.

On a side note, I regularly get asked by parents if they can join an appointment for their child, the answer is “yes, absolutely, parents/guardians are welcome to participate in individual appointments made by students”. At this point in time the ‘method’ – in-person or virtually, might need some negotiation, so use the email emartin@mscw.vic.edu.au to check in advance what’s best.

The following Career and Pathways events are scheduled

  • Year 9 and 10 Girls (10 students) Trades Fit Expo 16 May (NCW) – register interest with Elly Martin emartin@mscw.vic.edu.au
  • Year 9 Pathways Day 8 June
  • Year 9 Careers Day (including Job Skills Expo) 26 July
  • Year 10 Careers Day 17 May (please note this is two days prior than previously advised) (NCW)
  • Year 10 Work Experience (1 week commencing 14 June) and SWL for Applied Year 10 (2 weeks commencing 6 June)
  • Year 11 and 12 Tertiary Information Service and Careers Session 18 May (NCW)

2022 National Careers Week – Career! It’s more than just a Job.

National Careers Week (NCW) (16 – 22 May) aims to celebrate careers, career development and career development practitioners and to promote the economic, social and personal benefits of career development.

Everyday decisions and priorities affect career development. Career development is about much more than jobs – it is about how to live your life.

The objectives of National Careers Week are to:

  • Develop community awareness of the concept, benefit, and value of career development.
  • Raise aspirations, challenge stereotypes, and broaden horizons about careers.
  • Highlight the need for ongoing reskilling and upskilling to support careers throughout life.
  • Identify the changing nature of work and its impact on all Australians.
  • Showcase industries and the career opportunities available in them.
  • Provide opportunities to partner with key stakeholders.

In my role I often come across students (and some parents) questioning the value of school’s contribution to life roles and career pathways. The included Information Sheets School: What’s the point? and Parents as Career supporters might provide some food for thought….
