Living Well, Learning Well

Week 1 of Term 2 is finished already! This week, our learners have settled back into our classrooms, showing our 3 Rules for Living - I am Safe, I am Valued, Respected and Cared For and I am a Learner.

As with the beginning of every term, our learners are reminded of the importance of practising these rules for living to help create a safe and respectful learning environment.

Our students are also focusing on the importance of identifying and regulating their emotions to support feeling calm, focused and ready to learn. Parents can talk to their children about identifying emotions and ways they can remain calm at school.

A great strategy is slowing down our breathing by counting on focusing on our breath. Another fun way to increase the oxygen to our brains and support regulation is to blow bubbles! This can be using a bubble wand, or as simple as filling a small bucket with some soapy water, laying down on your tummy and using a straw to blow bubbles in the water until the bubbles come to the top.

We look forward to another successful term of learning.

Kind Regards,

NAPLAN

Dear Parents and Carers of Years 3 and 5 students,

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

Our school will be participating in NAPLAN Online between 10 and 20 May 2021.

Please see the following for individual test dates:

Tuesday 10 MayNAPLAN Writing
Thursday 12 MayNAPLAN Reading
Tuesday 17 MayNAPLAN Conventions of Language
Wednesday 18 MayNAPLAN Numeracy

Excessive preparation for NAPLAN Online is not recommended. Students do not need to be able to touch type to complete NAPLAN Online as the tests are not about keyboard skills (just as the paper test is not about handwriting skills). Students can use the public demonstration site to familiarise themselves with the types of questions and tools available in the NAPLAN Online tests.

Please see the attached NAPLAN Online – Information for parents and carers sheet for further information.

If you have any questions about NAPLAN Online, please contact the school office.

This week in Kindergarten, we have been focusing on letter formation and counting forwards and backwards from thirty.

Yesterday, students enjoyed participating in their own fun run activities at school, particularly the egg and spoon race!
