Middle School News

It has been a great couple of weeks for Term 2. Students and staff were very excited and happy to be back at school. It was fantastic visiting all the classrooms last week and seeing how happy and engaged everyone was in their work.
In the playground, students and staff have been playing games such as Chasey, hide and seek and octopus. Some of our students have been working on asking staff and students to play with them. It was great to get out in playground 3 on Thursday to play Chasey with Peter after he asked me to play. Well done Peter for asking people to play with you.
Some of our students have been busy practising for the State School Spectacular in the music room. Thank you to the ES who attend to help support our students during these practices. I know that everyone is looking forward to the main event!
This week our students learnt about how people celebrate Eid. There are many students at JSA who celebrate Eid with their families. As student leaders, some of our students and Maha (ES) shared with them how they celebrate Eid and what it means to them. In the classrooms, the students looked at what Eid is and made lanterns and learnt about the food eaten for Eid.
As the weather starts to get cool be sure to send jumpers and jackets with your child to school. Make sure that you label any jumpers, jackets and hats so that they do not get lost.
Swimming starts on Monday 16th May, parents are welcome to come to watch and to support their child with changing before and after the lesson. If you would like to do this please let the classroom teacher know.
Room 14
Room 14 loves Math.
Students in room 14 have been working hard towards their maths goals. Maths has become their favourite session. This is shown when students choose Maths when given a choice between topics.
Some students have been working on multiplication using a Japanese method. This has been an effective tool as the array created is more concrete and students have been kicking goals and growing in confidence. We have also been working with grids when looking at maps. This has been a fun and engaging topic and students have been choosing to complete extra map worksheets during quiet time.
Well done room 14.
