Excellence in Teaching and Learning

Stephanie Di Salvo

Assistant Principal

Dear parents, carers and friends of the school community,

Curriculum Day

As noted, our upcoming Curriculum Day scheduled on Monday 9th May, will provide the opportunity for all teaching and education support staff to engage in Protective Intervention Training. The course's learning intention is for staff to:

  • Gain greater confidence in managing potentially unsafe behaviour more safely;
  • Develop an understanding of the cause and function of Emotions & Behaviours of Concern;
  • Expand the toolbox of positive behavioural supports to prevent the development of hazardous unsafe behaviour;
  • Enhance Personal Safety through an understanding of body language, circles of danger, calm stances, and Help Scripts;
  • Develop Risk and Restraint Reduction Planning for organisations and individuals.

Please note that Monday 9th May is a pupil free day, therefore students will not be required to attend school on this day.

Professional Learning Communities (PLC) Update

PLCs have recommenced for Term 2. Our PLC Instructional Leaders have been busy working behind the scenes, to ensure that the school continues to foster a culture of continuous improvement;  focused on teacher collaboration.

This term, teachers will continue to follow the Improvement Cycle, to develop and plan and implement and monitor, sequential lessons focused on addressing the key competencies of the Personal and Social Capability Curriculum.

Teachers have been working collaboratively within their teams, to provide 'warm and cool' feedback to review and adapt teaching and learning practices and to use assessment to inform future judgement.

Thank you to our PLC Instructional Leaders for planning and facilitating one of the school's key forums in embedding whole-school improvement.

Training for Information Sharing and MARAM Reforms

The Victorian government is progressing 3 interrelated reforms that are integral to reducing family violence and promoting child wellbeing or safety. The 3 reforms are:

  1. Child Information Sharing Scheme (CISS)- enables authorised organisations and services to share information to promote the well-being or safety of children. Find more information on child information sharing.
  2. Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme (FVISS)- enables authorised organisations and services to share information to facilitate the assessment and management of family violence risk to children and adults.
  3. Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework (MARAM)- sets out the responsibilities of different workforces in identifying, assessing and managing family violence risk across the family violence and broader service system.

Leadership members and the Welfare Team, are currently undertaking training courses specifically designed for education leaders. The training will support the formulation of consistent and collaborative practices of identifying, responding and facilitating violence risk assessment and management.
