VCE Careers Expo

On Friday 29th April, 39 Year 12 students travelled to the Caulfield Racecourse to visit the VCE Careers Expo, where hundreds of stallholders from a range of universities and employers were on hand to answer questions and provide guidance. There were also seminars provided on VCE exam preparation in a range of subjects and pathways available with employers such as the Australian Defence Force and Victoria Police. Students and teachers had a fantastic day and students’ feedback on the best part of the day was:

“Learning about new opportunities and pathways – I had no idea that some of the pathways existed!”

“Touring the Monash Caulfield campus and finding out what uni life was actually like.”

“Speaking to people who had inside knowledge about the courses and pathways we were investigating”

Thanks to Michelle Lancaster for organising the day!

VCAL students Anny Strickland and Georgia Hood were the stallholders for VCAL vegies and jams, plus some delicious Hot Cross Bun ‘bake-at-home’ parcels made by Shelby Ross.

Easter Raffle

VCAL senior students Georgia Hood, Caitlin Woodward and Jess Bryan organised from start to finish the amazing raffle, raising money for The Royal Children’s Hospital.  The girls contacted local business for donations as prizes, they worked with Finance to complete the relevant paperwork required for fundraising and raised a total of $746.  Amazing effort!

Arthur Grassby Scholarship

Year 11 students, Owen Sanderson, Brianna Foster and Pippa Downing-Richards are the Arthur Grassby Scholarships successful candidates.  The scholarships is to provide our younger generation with an insight into the Gippsland connection to the Kokoda Trail and the sacrifices made by men from this community so they can enjoy the lives they live today.

The award is an opportunity for a student to join a Kokoda Trek with ‘Adventure Kokoda’ in July.

Arthur Grassby, of Bairnsdale, fought with the 39th Battalion and was in the first Australian troops to encounter the Japanese at Kokoda.

We look forward to hearing all about the preparation and the experience of this amazing adventure.
