Welcome to the wonderful class of 7H!
More often than not, you can find them in W9, unless they’re adventuring to other parts of the school for subjects like Performing Arts, Textiles, Science or PE. 7H is a passionate, funny and fun-loving class, and you can usually find them having lively class discussions and sharing their opinions when it comes to just about anything. You can rely on 7H to provide you with interesting and left-of-field opinions, and to ask questions that you may not expect, which always makes for an interesting lesson.
English
In English this semester with Ms. Kaur, 7H have looked at both creative and persuasive writing, and are about to begin working in reading groups to unpack texts. The most recent unit on persuasive writing has led to some fascinating discussions about the future of food and meat eating, including whether students would rather eat insects or lab grown meat. It is safe to say that students are forced to think outside the box and keep an open mind!
We often try to figure out the Wordle as a warm-up, even though sometimes some members of the class might have already done it, and can sometimes get too excited and spoil it for others…
Maths
In Maths this semester, Ms Kaur and 7H have made it through units of work on Number and Algebra, Statistics and Probability, and are currently finishing up Measurement and Geometry. We often look forward to our fortnightly (ish) combined classes with 7J on a Friday Session 4, where we do more practical, hands-on and games-based learning, and have been on adventures around the school with trundle wheels.
We also try and complete the Nerdle as a warm-up, working together collaboratively to get our brain cogs firing before we jump into the learning for the day.
Humanities
In 7H Humanities with Mrs Smith this semester, we have been learning about Ancient
Australian History and Water in the Word. We have had great fun mind mapping, creating posters and a variety of different maps, including treasure maps. Also learning about the water cycle through song! As a class we are looking forward to studying Ancient Egypt next.
Science
7H have been learning about forces. This week students were tasked with making bumpers for our Smart Carts. The Smart Carts connect to the students laptops using Bluetooth. The students collected data on their laptop to look at maximum impact force. The purpose of this activity was to minimise the impact force by creating a bumper, relating to car safety. The students enjoyed playing with the Smart Carts and colliding them against each other. Students were able to create different bumpers from a selection of craft materials and reduced the maximum impact force by 80%!!
Pastoral
Pastoral classes this year have seen 7H cover a wide variety of topics. Just in the last 6 weeks alone, we have looked at food, nutrition and sleep and the impact this has on teenagers, gender, gender norms and gender equality. Students have worked on individual activities as well as group projects. The quality of 7H work has been outstanding and as a group they have shown that they can work together really well and be very creative.
Health/PE
7H have been practicing their handballing and drop punt skills used in AFL. They were able to apply these skills in games of 'two team tag' and 'possession ball'. Most students were able to successfully handball and kick the ball using proper technique.
