Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

Welcome back!

We have a busy term ahead and in addition to our normal program, we will be administering the NAPLAN testing (Years 3 & 5 only) and engaging with external coaches for a range of sporting and other events.

On Monday 2nd May, all students in Prep-6 will travel by bus to Tawonga Primary School for the annual Cross Country event.  Please give consent for this event via compass.  A meal deal is available (order can be placedvia this order form and cash sent to school in a labelled envelope) or students may choose to bring their own lunch.  Please provide plenty of snacks for the day along with a water bottle and plenty of warm clothes, including wet weather gear.  Students who experience asthma must also carry a puffer with them at all times.

In the lead up to the Cross Country event, this week students have been participating in a whole school run.  Over the month of May, our students will continue to participate in a whole school walk/run as part of the school's involvement in the 2 billion kilometres to safety school challenge.  This challenge is helping UNHCR provide emergency support to refugee children forced to flee their homes and students will be working towards the goal of walking 243km during the month of May.  Families and friends are invited to sponsor students as they work towards achieving this goal.  For more information on how you can sponsor your child, please see our team page here.

From Tuesday 3rd May, all students will have the opportunity to participate in a 5 week Tennis coaching program with local coach, Geoff Hollow.  This program is being funded by Tennis Australia.

Many thanks to members of our SRC for representing our school at Monday's ANZAC Day ceremony, and to Kath and the children from OSHC who helped make the wreath from our garden, as part of their ANZAC activities.

This term, we will have two curriculum (pupil-free days) on Friday 20th May and Friday 3rd June.  OSHC will be running for families who require childcare on these days and bookings are essential.

A reminder that under the current COVID guidelines, students may attend school if they are a close household contact and do not test positive for COVID or have any symptoms.  If your child is a close household contact, please advise the school.  Students aged 8 and older who are close contacts will be expected to wear a mask

This year's NAPLAN (National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy) will be held from the 10th - 20th May for all students in Years 3 and 5.  If for any reason you do not want your child to participate, please contact the office by Friday 6th May.

Other Reminders:

*Please remember to bring your old runners to school for recycling, as part of our  'Tread Lightly' campaign to reduce landfill.  To read more about this program, please see this link.

*Rapid Antigen Test kits may still be collected from the office.  RAT testing will continue throughout the first four weeks of Term 2.

*Please check and update any new or past student absences via the Compass portal asap.
