‘BECAUSE’ when reading

The conjunction ‘because’ helps to explain cause and effect. You can use the images or events in the text to get your child to explain the cause and effect.

This picture is silly BECAUSE…..

The character acted angrily  BECAUSE….

The boy jumped BECAUSE….

Remember ‘just because’ is a way for your child to explain why.

Estimation in Mathematics

Estimation can be scary, because we think that we have to be exactly 100% right, especially in Maths! However, estimation helps us immensely when we are solving problems. If we round numbers in addition, subtraction, multiplication or division, visualise in Geometry or hypothesise in Statistics and Probability, we are encouraging students to think rationally and make reasonable predictions before using calculations to solve problems. So the next time your child asks you a question where they are expecting an exact answer, ask them to estimate / guess. For example, how long will it take to get from point A to point B? How many smarties are in a box? How many fries will I get in my Maccas box?
