St Mary's Catholic Identity News

Holy Week 2022.
‘Jesus has given his life for us’
This is a line from the Eucharist Prayer II for children that we say, often without really thinking about it during mass when we are preparing for the bread and wine to be consecrated into the body and blood of Jesus. When we stop to think about it, His ultimate sacrifice, His death, and a brutal death at that, demonstrates to us today about the importance of trust and faithfulness. This trust and faithfulness – the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, is a story of God demonstrating an unrelenting trust and faithfulness in us. Jesus was so trusting and faithful to us, that he not only came down to earth to be with us, he refused to run away when threatened. And when He died, His Daddy- His Abba- God, raised him up, demonstrating in one final and miraculous way just how committed to us He is. So next time we say that line at mass, stop and think about what this means for us- how can we remain trusting and faithful to Jesus’ message today?
Caritas K’s at the Parish… “Put Compassion into Action”
Today students from Year 4 went to the parish to participate in the walk in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and the world’s poor. The focus of the day was around raising awareness, raising funds and building community. Children walked around the block, carrying buckets of water and backpacks in order to empathize with communities around the world who are displaced due to war, famine or discrimination. Our year 5 students traveled to the church to participate in a mass with Fr.Des. We are so grateful to be able to gather as a community to support Caritas.
Project Compassion for Caritas update.
So far we have raised over $800 for Caritas- Project Compassion - Well done everyone! We have a few more events lined up between now and the end of term to try to hit $1000.
‘Move it in March’ Update
We have had three Fridays where many students, parents and staff have taken advantage of beautiful morning weather to walk, socialise and raise money for Project Compassion. Year 6 ‘Serve’ leaders have been collecting coins from students who have been walking. This Friday will be our last walk, even though we are technically in April! Check the car for loose coins to donate and please join us in the sunshine before school.
Easter Egg Raffle
Easter Egg Raffle donated Easter goodies and tickets have been coming back to school quickly… thankyou to the families who have donated so far and to those who have asked for extra tickets to sell. Tickets need to be returned to the office by Monday 4th April. Tickets will be drawn on Friday 8th April & announced at our Terrific Kid assembly.
Coin design
Students are asked to bring coins of any value on Thursday 7th April. We are trying to fill a picture with coins- I wonder what the picture will be?
Easter Cards for our community
Every child in our school has made an Easter card or written a letter to a resident in our aged care facilities and for the staff who have worked so hard, as a way of reaching out through Almsgiving during Lent. Thank you to the staff for supporting the children in this endeavor and to Julie and Prue at the parish for delivering them on our behalf.
