Dear Parents and Students,

I write this as we finish the fourth week of Term 2 at JMSS. The challenges have certainly been coming thick and fast in the last fortnight as the escalating impacts of both Covid 19 and the Flu has seen increasing numbers of students and staff isolating at home. Last week alone over 200 VCE assessments had to be rescheduled as students endeavored to catch up with missed work after coming out of isolation or back from the Flu. To assist all students, keep up with their work, we have changed a number of deadlines so that the impacts of illness are hopefully ameliorated. The upcoming exam period has been spread out and the exam length shortened for Year 10 and 11 students.

All students have received an exam and SAC timetable and the assessment period starts on Friday June 3rd. Most assessments will be held in the University and not in JMSS, so we do want students to arrive at least 45 minutes before the exam is due to be start and sign in at JMSS before being walked by staff to the assessment venue. Another change that we have made is to defer the publishing of Semester 1 reports until the start of term 3 so that we give all students the chance to catch up work missed. The last update to the school community also contained information on changes to the exam period and reporting timeline. With Term 2 being only 9 weeks in duration we are hopeful that the next few weeks see a lot less disruption to the school program.

Science Exhibition Evening

Congratulations to all staff and students involved in last week’s Science Exhibition Evening. It was brilliant to have this event on site and have our Year 10 students communicate a range of skills and knowledge inherent in their elective science subjects to an audience of more than 800 people. Thanks to all the science staff and Erin Hayley for organising such a great event.

Reef and Rainforest Trip 2022

We are really looking forward to the first Reef and Rainforest trip for 3 years going ahead at the end of this term. An information night for the 2022 participants was held face to face at JMSS with excellent attendance from parents and students. Payments for the final instalment are due by the end of May.

Entry for 2023

Again, instead of a face to face open night for prospective parents we ran a live interactive session from our studio, from which a recording was made and uploaded on Youtube. The recording has been very popular with hundreds of hits.

Registration for the Year 10 entry test closes in less than a week if you need to remind family or friends to register.
