Physical Education

with Susan Andrews | P.E. Teacher  | We are a Move Well Eat Well Accredited School

My name is Susan Andrews and I am the new PE teacher for John Paul II.

I have a background in athletics and equestrian sports and I am passionate about all kids being involved in movement and sport. I have three boys of my own and we can be regularly spotted at various sporting carnivals and school sport around Hobart.

This term is an exciting one for PE with visitors from AFL starting this week with our students and gymnastics at Eastside Gymnastics Academy later in the term. We also have our school Cross Country in Week 7.

Cross country can be a lot of fun but running consistently without a break can be quite difficult for some people. Last week the students practiced some longer running. We practised jogging slowly with an aim to run for as long as we can without stopping. This is worth practising over periods of 2-3 minutes for starters and the whole family can join in.  Instead of walking for long periods when they tired from running, we worked on just 3 strides of walking as the break, before returning to running again. Once the kids can run for 3 minutes without a break, it can be extended to 5 minutes and then longer.

On the Eastern Shore we have beautiful running and walking venues such as our beaches and parks to run.

Most importantly have fun!
