With Term 1 drawing to a close, there has been no shortage of Music happening across the College. Soon after returning from Music Camp, the College was fortunate enough to host a Classroom Music Incursion in Week 8 for Year 11 Senior Music; inviting the Lachlan McKenzie Quintet to the College to run a Performance and Composition Workshop for students. Soon followed by the Year 5 Musical “Dig It!” in Week 9, as well as an energetic performance by Wind Ensemble at the Primary Awards Assembly in Week 10. The term will conclude with the Premier Ensembles Concert this Thursday night, 31 March. Thanks to all families for their continued support throughout Term 1, which has been a great start to what is shaping out to be a great year of Music at Marist College Ashgrove.

Year 5 Musical “Dig It”

Last Thursday evening the young gentlemen of Year 5 starred in their debut performance at Marist - wowing audiences with their production of “Dig It”. The production saw the boys join inquisitive archaeologists, Taki, Tut, Talis and Tryn, and their fossil friend, Sally, as they explored the wonders of ancient civilizations. We couldn’t be prouder of the show the boys put on and we look forward to seeing them grow in their musical journey at Marist. Big congratulations to all the boys and Music Staff involved especially Ms Melanie Stewart, who was the driving force behind the project and Miss Megan Harmston for her starring role in the show. Finally special congratulations to the following Grade 5 Boys who played special roles in the production:

Lachlan McKenzie Quintet – Year 11 Senior Music Incursion

Having the opportunity to attend and experience live music performances is an excellent way for students to develop their own musical skills. On Friday 18 March the College was fortunate enough to have five nationally acclaimed musicians from Sydney visiting the Music Department to hold a workshop for our Senior Music Students. The Lachlan McKenzie Quintet features Lachlan McKenzie (Trumpet), Lachlan Hamilton (Tenor Saxophone), Wilbur Whitta (Piano), Jacob Graham (Double Bass) and George Greenhill (Drums). The group of well-seasoned musicians and educators will offer a wealth of knowledge to our Senior Music Students and we are very grateful to provide the students with this opportunity.
