a word from leadership

Being innovators and creators

We talk a lot about the high value we place on innovation, creativity, risk taking and collaboration.

Our teachers work and model in this space constantly. For 3 years they have trialed, played, created and innovated as together we have developed a new framework for learning - the Good Shepherd Learning Framework.

The framework includes tools and impact maps which follow a child's development in the skills we also talk about a lot! - collaboration, critical and creative thinking, agency, resilience (for example).

Our framework does something else - it focuses on unpacking our 8 Learning Principles across learning areas in units of work. Our new framework is built on new approached to interdisciplinary learning (learning across disciplines such as Maths, English, HASS, Technologies.) It is ground breaking and important work as we take conscious steps to focus and build learning around the dispositions, skills and capabilities reflected in our Learning Principles. Principles which reflect how we believe children learn now and into the future.

I thank our teachers for the tenacity and professionalism they display when they 'play in this creative space'. I acknowledge and applaud the various teachers who have worked in the project team that I've led (Bec Ingham, Bethany Kluge, Anthea Shields, Leah Smith, Ashleigh Willoughby, Gen Hart, Sarah Shaw, Trish Stewart).

It was a wonderful celebration on the first day of term at Pulteney Grammar as the paper "Learning in a Floating World of disciplines: Reflections on the Metapraxis Project" (authored by Michael Bunce) was launched which captures the work of our school (& the other independent schools) who participated in this project.

Our current Learning Innovation Team takes us into the newest AISSA (Association of Independent Schools of South Australia) "The Learning Impact Project", supported and challenged by an international advisory group.

Stay tuned as we research and develop further our Learning Framework to capture the impact of learning on our learners!

We love our volunteers

If you care for, encourage and support members of our community;

If you help in classrooms, on excursions, in the canteen;

If you serve on our School Board, coach or manage sporting teams;

If you collaborate to plan for/set up Men'n'Minors;

If you cover books for or shelve books in the library;

If you sew costumes for our Showcase Musicals;

If you cook and serve BBQ's at events;

If you serve on planning teams for community events such as our Welcome Party;

If you help set/clean up for events,

If you set up and serve on Mothers and Father's Day Stalls;

If you take your turn on a roster at for example, the Welcome Party...you are a precious Good Shepherd Volunteer.

The African proverb: "It takes a village to raise a child" means that raising a child well is a communal effort, and that is what we see in abundance every day at Good Shepherd.

During this Volunteers Week we humbly say "Thank you" to all of you who enter our doors, corridors, yard and church to help in all the multiple ways you do. We cannot provide for your children in such rich ways without your willingness to help and offer your time.

We are grateful!

Ephesians 1:15

That’s why, when I heard of the solid trust you have in the Master Jesus and your outpouring of love to all the followers of Jesus, I couldn’t stop thanking God for you - every time I prayed, I’d think of you and give thanks.

School Uniform

As the weather becomes cooler, a reminder of our uniform policy.

Please refer to pgs. 29-31 of the Handbook to find our uniform policy.

During May either the full summer uniform OR full winter uniform is permitted, from June our Stage 3 & 4 students wear the winter uniform.

Please note in the Handbook, that sport shoes are to be predominantly white, black or grey trainers/joggers, with the same colour laces. Sport shoes are not to be worn with the girls summer or winter uniform.

Thank you for supporting this policy in our school.

Dads and Kids Camp (M'n'M) - rescheduled!

After a COVID related postponement, M'n'M 2022 (Men and Minors camp) has been rescheduled for 16 - 18 September, at the regular location near Williamstown.  All primary school aged children accompanied by their dad (or significant male) are welcome to attend.

A great weekend to 'get back to basics' and really enjoy some quality time with your children and also the opportunity to connect with other dads too.  Saturday is packed full of fun activities and a nice amount of 'down time'. Come along and see what more than 300 people enjoyed in 2021!

The following link provides detailed information about the camp.
