Junior House Athletics

On Friday 20th May it was the Junior School students' turn to try their hand at a variety of modified athletic events. The day started with the sprint races. It was safe to say the lines Mr Corcoran painted meant almost everyone ran in a straight line. The cheering from the house tents was loud throughout the morning with Mrs Halket taking control of the megaphone.

Once the races had finished the students split up into their age groups and completed six novelty rotations which were led by our awesome school leaders. All the students tried their best and earnt valuable house points.

It was a tight contest and it came down to the wire:

4th - Wiiny on 549

3rd - Biik on 587

2nd - Baany on 588

1st - Munmut on 589

It was a win for the ages for Munmut - one that staff and students will remember for a while.

The day concluded with the staff race. A big congratulations to Mrs Richardson who finished 1st - her very first ribbon ever! Thanks to our volunteers for giving up their time to assist with the running of the event. It was lovely to see so many families and friends at the event supporting their little people.

Gymnastics Program - Junior School

As part of the Sporting Schools Grants program we have been lucky enough to secure funding to have an external coach come in and provide each foundation, year 1 and year 2 class with a 50 minute gymnastics session over four weeks. We have completed two weeks so far and the students have loved having Coach Kat here. They have learnt different ways to move their body with control. So far the skills they have focused on have been forward rolls, bunny hops leading into handstands, side bunny hops as a progression to cartwheels, balancing in a variety of positions and increasing core strength.

Ollie C (Fc) - “I was so proud when I did a forward roll.”

Raiden (1a) - “It was fun when we played Crabs and Bears.”

Gemma (2a) - “My favourite was the backwards roll using Mickey Mouse ears.”

Target Games - Middle School

Over the last few weeks the students have been working on their throwing skills through different modified games where they have to hit stationary and moving targets. It has been awesome to see the improvements in technique and also strategies when incorporating these skills into game play. The students were able to take on board what they had learnt in previous weeks to create their own mini target games for the class to play.

Organised Games - Senior School

In preparation for Lightning Premiers sports the senior school have completed modified t-ball and netball games during Physical Vibe lessons. The way in which they have picked up the sport specific terminology and rules has been pleasing. Ask them what a 'grand slam' or 'force 3rd' is in tball or what is means to 'pivot' or keep 'three feet' in netball. The students are looking forward to putting these skills in play when we play off against other schools in our district on Wednesday 8th June.

Division Cross Country

The Division Cross Country that was originally scheduled for Wednesday 1st June took place on Friday 3rd June. The conditions were still tough with some tricky parts of the course.

Well done to all 9 students who gave it their all.

Thanks to the parents and friends who transported the students and were a loud cheer squad.

Performing Arts

Our dance program has began in the amazing Library space.  We have made a great start to School Concert practise.

Concert night will be Tuesday 9th August at the Frankston Arts Centre. The overall theme is ‘JUST DANCE IT,’ as we are inspired by the 'Just Dance' video game. I always look forward to working with each class closely every week, as we choreograph together in a safe and happy space.

Environmental Studies

Taliyah Year 6

As part of National Reconciliation Week the Year 5 and 6 students researched and prepared their own  Acknowledgement to Country. We also had to record it so the teachers can select one to display in our new building. It was a very exciting and special activity.

Here is the Acknowledgement of Country I created.

We would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land the Bunurong people for the land on which we meet today. We thank them for providing a safe and happy community for us to learn and live together in unity. We pay our respects to the Elders past, present and emerging.
