Secondary School News

Mrs. Lakshmi Mohan

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Term 2.  I hope you have had a happy and rested Easter break and are ready to take on the academic and extracurricular opportunities that the term will present.

We are delighted that we have a number of new students starting this term in the Secondary School in Years 7, 8 and 10.  We welcome these students and their families to the Clayfield College Community and wish them the very best for the journey ahead.

Term 2 begins on Tuesday 19 April and promises to be a busy one.  I would like to highlight some key expectations, procedures, events and dates.

Uniform Requirements

During the holidays, your daughter may have enjoyed the freedom of synthetic eyelashes/nails, coloured hair and/or additional piercings in their ears. Could I please draw your attention to the following uniform requirements which all students need to adhere to:

  • One silver/gold stud or sleeper in each ear lobe if students have pierced ears
  • If hair length exceeds the collar, it should be tied up with a green ribbon or  scrunchie only
  • PE uniform is not to be worn to and from the College
  • Hats must be worn during break times and whilst travelling to and from the College

Infringements and detentions will be applied if consideration is not given to appropriate uniform requirements. A reminder that the change to Winter Uniform for Secondary School students is on 16 May.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care (PC) time begins promptly at 8:30 am every morning. This is an important time of the day when key notices and information are distributed to students. Thank you for making sure your child(ren) arrives at school on time. If students need to leave school throughout the day or will be late to school, please notify the College by using the School app. This is also important if they are attending any district sporting events.

Mobile Phone Policy

As a reminder, students in Years 7 to 12 who bring their mobile phone to College, are to store their phone in their locker for the day. The exception to this is students in Years 10 to 12 who require their phone for HPE lessons. It is then their responsibility to collect their phone from the locker before the lesson and return it back to the locker after the HPE lesson. Mobile Phones will be confiscated and infringements applied if students contravene the above.

Parent Lounge Details

It is a school’s legal requirement that all family details are up to date on Parent Lounge. Therefore, if any parent/caregiver details have changed pertaining to email, address, phone numbers or medical details, could you please make the appropriate changes on Parent Lounge.

Years 7 to 12 Academic Procedures and Policies Document

The Year 7 to 12 Academic Procedures and Policies Document gives an overview of all procedures and protocols that need to be adhered to by staff, students and parents with regard to

  1. Academic integrity
  2. Assessment
  3. Drafting, scaffolding, conferencing and feedback
  4. Subject changes, and
  5. AARA

You can access the document through the button below.  It is also available in Parent Lounge and Student Café under Links: Assessment and Reporting.

NAPLAN Practice Tests - Catch-up Session

For students who were absent from the NAPLAN practice test on Monday 28 March, a catch-up session will be provided on Thursday 21 April. Students will have the opportunity to engage with the NAPLAN online platform and practice tests. If your child was absent for the practice test session in Term 1, please ensure that they are present for the session on 21 April and no appointments are made requiring absence from the College on this day. This will be the final opportunity for students to familiarise themselves with the test platform, which is critical, and for our IT team to ensure that the NAP Locked Down browser is working appropriately on their devices. Students should bring their fully charged device and wired headphones to the NAPLAN practice session.
