Chaplain's Corner

As we are half way into Great Lent we have turned our souls towards the Source of Power and New Life through daily prayer, spiritual reading, the Liturgy of Pre-Sanctified Gifts, Great Compline, the Akathist Hymn and participating in the Holy Sacraments.

On the 28 March our middle - senior school students attended the Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified Gifts which I explained to them at the end of the service that Great Lent from the earliest days of Christianity was always a period of self-examination, self-reflection and a period of cleansing our soul by analysing a prayer that the priest reads during the service:

O God, great and praiseworthy, who through the life-giving death of Your Christ brought us from corruption to incorruption. Set free all our senses from deadly passions, setting over them as a good guide the understanding that is within us. Let our eyes abstain from evil sights; our hearing from idle talk; and our tongue cleansed from unsuitable speech. Purify our lips that sing Your praises, O Lord. Let our hands abstain from evil acts and produce only works that are pleasing to You, safeguarding by Your grace all our limbs and mind.

Our junior school students also attended 31 March the Liturgy of the Pre-sanctify Gifts and explained the importance of fasting and charity.

Annunciation of the Virgin Mary and Independence Day of the Greek Nation.

The 25th March marked an important event and festivity the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary and the Independence Day of the Greek Nation. Our students attended our church service representing our school with our flags. In addition, our students recited poems and spoke the significance of the day in Greek to our congregation. Finally, our Byzantine Choir chanted devoutly and vividly the hymns of the feast day honouring our Theotokos and Ever Virgin Mary. We would like to congratulate all our students and teachers who took part of this auspicious event and feast day that made all our parishioners filled with joy and gladness in their hearts.  Click on the link to observe the YouTube of the service:
