Interview with Naomi Hunter

Mrs Naomi Hunter (PE Teacher)

How long have you been working at BNPS?

Since Term 2 last year.

What is your role at BNPS?

PE Teacher and a special new role at BNPS… Performing Arts Teacher for the Preps where I am running an engaging weekly program that focuses on developing social and emotional skills using drama and yoga movement.

What did you do before working at BNPS?

SO many adventurous things!

I travelled to Tanzania with my hubby and daughter and lived in a little fishing village called Bagamoyo. We lived in a little round hut in an orphanage and I taught preps in the local school. It was such an incredible experience.  We then travelled to Egypt and rode around the pyramids on horseback for our daughter’s 6th birthday, then Spain, France, Switzerland and finished our journey in London to experience the Harry Potter Studios… AMAZING!

I am also an author of 4 children’s picture storybooks, so I did quite a lot of road trips up and down the east coast, visiting kindergartens and schools conducting book readings and author visits. So much fun experiencing such beautiful places in Australia.

Where’s your favourite place in the world?

Wherever my beautiful hubby and daughter are… They are my favourite place in the world and if possible, swimming with them in a waterfall or paddle boarding with dolphins! PERFECTO!

If you could be any animal, which would you be?

A dolphin… they have most joyous and playful personalities and I just LOVE the ocean and being in it is truly magical.

What’s the last book you read?

To Kill A Mockingbird. Powerful!

What are you passionate about?

Being the kindest and best version of myself possible and making the people around me feel happy!

What’s your favourite movie?

A League of their Own. Best. Movie. Ever!!!!!

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

Bungee jumping into the Zambezi River at Victoria Falls. 111 metres in 3 seconds… I burst the blood vessels in my eyeballs. Crrrrazy!

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?

Making each PE and wellbeing lesson super fun, relevant and enjoyable for all of my students… Plus, my first children’s book is being transformed into a stage musical by a Melbourne theatre company to help children and families have meaningful conversations about body safety and emotional wellbeing. I am so excited! I also have several new books in the making… I love writing and creating books that children and families can connect with and enhance their wellbeing.

What’s your secret talent that no one knows about?

I once held the plank pose for 68 minutes… YUP! True story.

If you were a crayon, what colour would you be?

Rainbow… It is my favourite colour!

What’s the most helpful way for you to get feedback?

Through song. I love music. Life is a song… please sing to me!
