Our Fortnight in Review

Some happy snaps of our fortnight!

Sports Star Academy

Last week we were lucky enough to have Sports Star Academy (SSA) come out to provide all of our students with an opportunity to try out soccer and tennis. The coaches ran a number of fun and engaging games with the students during the after school care sessions.

A number of parents have asked whether they can book their children into the Wednesday Soccer and Thursday Tennis lessons and SSA have confirmed that this is still possible. Payment arrangements will be made on a pro rata basis - please contact SSA (Sebastian or Elliott ) directly on 1300 372 300 to book in and then let us know via email so that we can include your child on the lists.

Sustainability Presentation

Last week our Sustainability Captain (Hannah M) and our JSC Representative (Milla H) teamed up and presented to our students, a rundown of all the sustainable initiatives we have implemented at OSHC. They even included some role-playing with the wonderful acting of one of our Educators, Christian!

Well done Hannah and Milla - we are very proud of you!

Digital Sign In & Out

Over the next few weeks we will be moving over to a digital Sign In/Out program on the iPads called ‘QikKids Kiosk’.  Benefits of using this digital program include:

  • The ability to better manage and record the exact times children are signed in and out of our service - this information is a legal requirement.
  • More sustainable than using paper based rolls.
  • The  ability to flash individual messages to you such as the need to sign an injury report.
  • The ability to use more than one iPad in case of an emergency, meaning more staff can simultaneously access the rolls for head counts.

This program will require you to enter your phone number followed by a unique pin in order to sign your child in and out of our service. It is therefore important that we have the most up to date mobile phone numbers of all persons authorised to collect your children from OSHC. If you need to update any information on your authorised contact lists on your Enrolment Form, please speak with Amanda, Tamara or myself (Kelly).

Who's Who?!

By Helena 5C

Have you met our new OSHC team member? His name is Kareem. Some of you might mistake him for Jameel who used to work here, but he is not a Year 1 Teacher. Or you might think he is Salaam who was also working here but is now in Japan teaching! You see these three people are identical triplets! Yes, identical triplets!

Jameel, Salaam & Kareem!
Jameel, Salaam & Kareem!

So, now when you see him you won't get confused because he (far right)  is KAREEM!!!

Morning Care Supervision

Just a reminder that we open (and licensed) from 7:30am - you are welcome to stay in the room with your child prior to this time however, you must not leave your child in our care before 7:30am.

Child Care Subsidy Facts

  • Families are responsible to apply for Child Care Subsidy - if they don’t apply, full price fees apply.
  • The Child Care Subsidy is paid directly to the service from the Australian Government.
  • If your child does not use the service for 8 weeks, your enrolment for Child Care Subsidy (NOT YOUR ACTUAL OSHC ENROLMENT) is ceased.
  • If you need to use the service again after the 8 week period, you will need to confirm your child’s enrolment through Centrelink on your MyGov app.
  • Confirming attendances can be done after they are processed at OSHC (attendances are processed at the end of each week; you can confirm the beginning of the following week).
  • If your child is absent from care and you are charged as an Absence, you will receive the Child Care Subsidy for the initial 42 absent days per financial year.
  • If a child is absent for more than one session of child care on the same day, such as both before and after school care, it is counted as one  absence day.
  • All children must be signed in and out by someone listed on the Enrolment Form, showing exact arrival and departure times.

We offer a range of ‘clubs’ at OSHC. This term we have:

  • Homework club – Every night

Children are able to sign themselves up for these clubs at any time.

Please email Kelly at oshc@beamarisnorthps.vic.edu.au to express your interest.

Quote of the Fortnight

“You can’t teach children to behave better by making them feel worse. When children feel better, they behave better.” – Pam Leo

We are currently in the process of strengthening our enrolment/orientation processes and would love to know your thoughts.
