2018 Annual Music Concert held at Woodville Town Hall

Performing Arts News

What a month of Music! We have seen some brilliant moments both musically and developmentally for our students.

Annual Music Concert

Congratulations to all of the students who were involved in the Annual Music Concert on Thursday 30 August. It was a standout event with strong support from all students, families and the wider Blackfriars Community. The evening commenced with the opening item – The Greatest Show, from the Greatest Showman which set the tone for the evening. All bands and choirs performed to a high standard and with lots of energy and enthusiasm. The Year 2 Ensemble graced the stage with their first ever Blackfriars Annual Music Concert, the Senior Vocal Group transformed into the Jersey Boys and Concert Band 1 took the audience back to the 60s with a medley of songs entitled Soulful Sixties.

I would like to acknowledge the work of the comperes on the evening – Antony, Gianni and Daniel Macolino who co-compered with Mr Patrick Kelly. They were fantastic in their delivery throughout the evening. A big thanks to all of the administration, maintenance and instrumental music staff for making the evening successful. We were very overwhelmed by the generosity of our community with some outstanding raffle prizes which exceed the overall value of $3,000. Thank you to all the parents for their help with both the raffle and sweets stall.

Special gratitude goes to Mrs Libby Hunter, Miss Marie Wohling and Mrs Amelia Eagle for their commitment, dedication and professional contribution to the Blackfriars Music Faculty. An event of this size involves a large team effort. We were extremely pleased with the success of the evening and the performances of our talented students.

Catholic School’s Music Festival

Throughout this week Blackfriars has strongly represented our Music Program at the Catholic School’s Music Festival. Students performed across the four nights at the Entertainment Centre as part of the combined Baritone Boys group. Stage Band 1 opened the support acts for the week on Monday evening, performing I Got Rhythm, while our 6/7 choir performed in row one as part of the festival choir. Both Lorenzo Ravida (Year 12) and Daniel Marshall (Year 6) were successful in performing solos on the evening. On Tuesday evening, the Senior Vocal Group performed Cry Me a River as a support act and on Thursday evening Vince Ravida (Year 11) and Daniel Marshall again performed solos in the presence of the Governor.

It was a highly successful week and a wonderful opportunity for collaboration across the Catholic School sector. I was very proud of Blackfriars students in the way they participated in the large-scale event and they were exemplary in conduct and attitude.
