Thank you to all coaches, old scholars, parents, teachers and managers for their time and contribution to the Blackfriars Winter Co-Curricular Program. It is through the efforts of all these people that allow students the opportunity to participate in the sport or activities they enjoy to develop a sense of community, learn new skills and strengthen friendships with their peers.
Gosse Medal Presentation
The Gosse Medal Presentation was held on Monday 10 September. The Gosse Medal is an initiative by the SAAS Football competition in recognition of the best player in the A1 Football Competition. A medal is also presented to the best and fairest player in the A2 Football Competition in which the Blackfriars First XVIII Football team competes. This best and fairest is voted by the umpires. Congratulations to Dyson Hilder (pictured above) who is the joint 2018 recipient of the A2 SAAS Championship League Best and Fairest Medal.
Dominican Cup Debating Competition
The annual Dominican Debating Competition between Blackfriars and St Dominic's will be held on Tuesday 18 September at St Dominic’s. The teams will compete for the following cups:
First XI Soccer vs BOSA SC
The annual Tony Moss Memorial Game between Blackfriars First XI Soccer team and Blackfriars Old Scholars Association Soccer Club (BOSA SC) will be held on Wednesday 19 September at Charles Cane Reserve, 7:00pm kick off. Blackfriars will be aiming to win back the trophy from a strong BOSA SC side.
First XI Soccer vs St Peter’s
On Wednesday 12 September, Blackfriars competed against St Peter’s College in the annual Intercollegiate Trophy now named the Joe Mullen Cup. Blackfriars lost the match 3 – 2 after extra time. Congratulations to Lachlan Palmieri who was awarded best on ground.
Students Achievements
Well done to Luis Lawrie-Lattanzio who was selected to represent School Sport SA at the School Sport Australia Football (Soccer) Championships. The championships were held in Victoria from 25 to 31 August 2018.
Old Scholar Achievements
Congratulations to old scholars Angus Ralph (2016) and Andy McWhirter (2017) on their recent Football achievements at Broadview Football Club. Angus won the Division 2 Reserves League G Palasis Medal for Best and Fairest and Andy was runner up in the Under 18 League Best and Fairest.
